Great value and lots to explore – especially with kids
We spent about two hours at the Natural History Museum in Karlsruhe with our three children and had a great time. The highlight for the kids was definitely the live aquariums – especially the sharks and the crocodiles, which were fascinating to watch up close.
There are also a few interactive exhibits, like one where you can feel the shaking of an earthquake, which added a fun and educational touch.
Considering that children get in for free and adult tickets are only €6, it’s amazing value. There was a temporary exhibition as well, but we were advised to just explore the permanent collection, which covers about 80% of the museum – and that was more than enough for us.

Kept us entertained for over 3 hours; aquarium and vivarium was much bigger and better than we expected and there are also other live exhibits sprinkled in the other sections. Highlights for us included the jellyfish aquarium, octopus, lantern fish, giant salamander and whale skeleton. We also enjoyed looking through the drawers at the insect specimens. Lots of reference to the local area too which helped make things more interesting. Could maybe do with some more large dinosaurs and quite a few of the interactive things weren't working properly (even in the special exhibition); but for the money it was very good. We didn't have to queue all that long to get in, but by the time (on a rainy Sunday) we left the queues were very long; which may be worth...

Their aquariums are really large and impressive, with sharks and all sorts of fish and marine life.
They also have mineral displays as well as fossils and various sorts of galleries that tend to change depending on the year.

Parking nearby but also really easy to get to via tram or by foot.
Fair prices and also free on certain days.
Try buying online before you visit as corona has changed capacity limits but that tends to change along with the current corona cases within the city. Hopefully that won’t be an issue for...
