It was rainy day in Karlsruhe city, so we decided to visit museum in the Palace. Ticket cost 6 euros per person. You can leave your bags and jackets in the lockers free of charge. We wandered throughout history starting in Ancient Egypt and ending with Curt Cobain (true fans will know). Museum is not really big, for us it took about 3 hours to walk around, considering that we are not native German speakers. If you visiting with kids, they wont be overloaded with too much information, also there is few interactive expositions worth checking out. At the end there is small souvenir shop. Overall it was great decision to use rainy day and visit museum in exchange for some history.

Good size museum. The top floor has the best exhibits in my opinion. There are modern German collections that seem more relevant to Karlsruhe. The first three floors have a lot of ancient artifacts that you have seen in most museum, mummies, religious art, Greek pottery, etc. None of the exhibits have English translations, so all text in the museum is in German only. You can take a separate tour to the tower (turm) for an additional price depending on your desire to see the cityscape. The park behind the palace is really nice with lots of different areas, a small train, and plenty of walking paths. The area was full of people playing soccer, frisbee, and drinking while we were visiting. Overall a young vibrant city. My recommendations are to put the exhibit text in English like most museums do these days and make the signage on where to go for the museum tour more visible. It’s a bit easy to get lost at first. Coat check and restrooms are free. There is a parking garage under the plaza out front that makes getting to the palace very easy. Staff spoke mostly German, with a few that could speak a little English.

The palace looks amazing from the outside. The grounds are vast and it was all very exciting until we went in. The inside was renovated in a modern look and there are 14 rooms only of museum. There was no aircon and it wasn’t really sold to us by the lovely service staff. They did however recommend for us to go up the tower for €4. Which was a steep climb up many stairs and was well worth it. You could see over the beautiful botanical gardens and the city. It was quite deflating to be in such a beautiful place with so much history but it seemed empty for the most part. I would definitely recommend going to see it and going up the tower. If you went into the museum it was €8

Big disappointment. The building itself is beautiful. We were expecting nicely renovated rooms inside and to be able to see what the palace used to look like originally. Instead it’s a bloody museum. Couldn’t see anything from the original interior. The exhibitions themself were placed in a very boring way. You can make a museum interesting but here I feel like didn’t even try. Top of everything nothing was translated to English in the exhibition. You go to a museum in Czechia or Poland or anywhere you see English descriptions. All together, beautiful building turned into a boring museum. Felt like I was in a school field trip again but I volunteered to do so

Tower Museum and tower visits available inside, but you require proof of vaccination or recent test when we went. Different pricing options available depending on what you want to see. Can pay with card or cash. Very friendly staff, available to help in English and German. Lockers inside for storage of certain items, as you cannot take bags or purses inside. Photos are ok. The tower historic film about the castle is amazing but only available in German, so beware of that. You can however, go up to the tower right after. Vaccine or recent corona test required at the entrance.

Description
Karlsruhe Palace was built in 1715 for Margrave Charles III William of Baden-Durlach after a dispute with the citizens of his previous capital, Durlach. The city of Karlsruhe has since grown around it. The building is now home to the main museum of the Badisches Landesmuseum.
