Restaurant Zum Schützenhof — Restaurant in Kronberg im Taunus

Not many British think of spending a holiday in Germany, but many do business there. If you are having to go to Frankfurt, this is a great place to stay. Kronberg is on the end of the S4 Strassenbahn, and only 20 minutes by car from the centre (traffic permitting) yet it is out in the countryside, in the foothills of the Taunus (think Cotswold Edge!)||||The town is a dormitory for Frankfurt bankers and financiers, so very chic and expensive, but the Schuetzenhof is a regular traditional old-style German guest house, with comfortable rooms and town centre position. Don't expect any glamour or extravagance, and many of the rooms hark back to a previous generation where the beds look like cots and the fixtures very '70's. But modernisaton is gradually seeping through the place. Free good quality wifi is now a given in most German hostelries.||||The restaurant downstairs does not belong to the hotel, and it seems to change hands and quality on a routine basis, so ignore that. Breakfast is rudimentary continental style, and for the last 10 years I have been coming here, it has never changed. Yoghurt, a boiled egg, bread rolls, ham, cheese and jam. With tea or coffee of course. Enough to get you going in the morning, but not a bewildering selection.||||If you are visiting Frankfurt and want somewhere inexpensive and slightly out of town and quiet, this is the place to go. And if you want to pretend to be posh, you can always have dinner at the Schloss Hotel up the road, where the England footie...

Katastrophaler Service: Wir waren mit 6 Personen abends dort essen. Eigentlich sollte für 2 Kinder jeweils eine heiße Schokolade bestellt werden, steht auch auf der Karte, Kellnerin entgegnet uns aber nur entgeistert: "Sowas haben wir nicht!". Ok also keine heiße Schokolade. Dann haben zwei Personen individuell ein Getränk bestellt, für den Rest sollte eine große Flasche stilles Wasser mit Gläsern kommen. Es wurde ein Glas zu wenig auf den Tisch gestellt, die Kellnerin drehte sich kommentarlos um und ging wieder. Fürs Essen wurde es dann wirklich abstrus: Es wurde ein Krug mit Besteck auf den Tisch gestellt, in dem sich 6 Messer, 4 Gabeln und genau 1 Serviette befanden. Dass das nicht für 6 Personen reicht, hätte man vielleicht auch merken können, wenn man auch nur ein kleines bisschen aufmerksam ist. War aber nicht der Fall, wir mussten (mehrfach!) an der Theke darum bitten, dass die fehlenden Dinge gebracht werden. Dann wurde das Essen serviert: Allerdings nur für 5 von 6 Personen, eine Person hatte dann 10 Minuten lang gar nichts auf dem Tisch stehen. Darüber hinaus wurde ein Gericht falsch gebracht (normales Schnitzel anstatt Schnitzel mit Käse und Speck überbacken). Also hatten dann zunächst mal 2 von 6 Personen gar nichts zum Essen. Dann wurde ein paar Minuten später das korrekte Schnitzel serviert, aber das letzte Gericht für die 6. Person immer noch nicht. Weitere 5 Minuten später kam dann ein Gericht für diese Person. Bestellt worden war Lammcurry mit Naan als Beilage. Serviert wurden dann kurioserweise Bandnudeln, also ein komplett anderes Gericht. Und das mit so extremer Verspätung, dass alle anderen schon mit dem Essen fertig waren. Kein Wort der Entschuldigung zu den zahlreichen Fehlern, die zu diesem Zeitpunkt schon erfolgt waren. Dann nochmal 10 Minuten warten, dann wurde wieder etwas serviert: Zwar nun korrekterweise Lammcurry, aber als Beilage Reis (anstatt Naan). Und das obwohl die Kellnerin bei Aufnahme der Bestellung extra noch nachfragte, welche Art von Naan es denn sein soll. Wir waren nun wirklich "bedient" ob dieses katastrophalen Services und der Tatsache, dass weiterhin niemandem ein einziges Wort der Entschuldigung über die Lippen kam.
