PSA: I wrote this review a year ago and it didn't go publish until now:

I've been going to Dankbar since 2 years now and I always order the Australian Breakfast, and I have to say that the quality it is not consistent, sometimes you get a really bad plate with the poached eggs literally boiled instead of juicy and over time, of course they have increased the prices, like everywhere, but the quality has decreased A LOT. Now the Australian breakfast comes with a portion of a salad that is a joke compared of how it used to be before, they used to put a lot of salad on the side, with sesame seeds, dressing, etc, and now it's just a salatmix bought in the supermarket with whatever. As for the bread and the poached eggs, they put a lot of sauce that is literally full of fat, and that's it. In the past they used to have a nice spread in the bread, like mashed peas or pumpkin, etc, but honestly nowadays the quality is below average… the only reason why the place still gets crowded is because it still takes advantage of the popularity it gained, and perhaps because the mood/decor at the place is indeed very nice and bio-leipziger-hipsters friendly.

TLDR: The breakfast is not as nice as it used to be before, they decreased the quality a lot. Won't recommend it for brunch, at all. Coffe and cakes are nice.

Update: Last time I went there, I asked for poached eggs, and they came literally boiled, like seriously boiled. When I asked the waiter if they could change the plate, she looked at me saying "what's wrong, there's your breakfat", and I had to explain to her what poached eggs mean, and how they are. Embarrassing. This happens quite often. If you're not gonna serve proper pached eggs, then simply don't offer them and better do something...

Hi, Today I visited this cafe with my friend. We were hoping to start our day from the good coffee and mood, but it didn’t happen in this place. The waiter brought me a capucinno without usual standard picture and he brought the cappuccino to my friend with a normal picture. I asked them if they could change it and the waitress responded: „It‘s a normal cappuccino, just without picture, it’s the same.“ Then i came to another barista and he asked: „Do you want me to throw it away? Do you want me to spoil a product?“. I asked them quietly with a smile again whether they could bring me a new one. And they were rude in response and behaved themselves like such an attitude is okay. Awful. The mood was spoiled, the service here is not client-oriented, it’s selfish and the waiters do not respect clients Please change your attitude to clients because then you will lose...

1 year later: wow what a change. Coffee is fantastic and the food is seriously great. The service changed too. Love it here! Thank you folks Nice bar for a great coffee. Just got my portion of sweet in the afternoon and was disappointed 😞. The cinnamon roll "Franzbrötchen" was dry and burnt. They tried to cover it up in a ton of sugar and cinnamon, did not work. And the piece of caramel cheesecake was... Nothing. Maybe a good cake under the cheap caramel sauce but who knows. Man cheesecakes are not that hard, but this was not salty, not crunchy, or very cheesy... Try again please. I am so sorry guys your espresso is so great and delicious but the sweets are not up for the task.

Café Dankbar on Jahnallee in Leipzig is a charming spot with a unique atmosphere, housed in a beautifully restored former butcher shop. The coffee is exceptional, and the menu shines with fresh, regional ingredients—especially the dishes featuring their hearty sourdough bread, which were a real treat. The Jugendstil ceiling adds a special historic flair, and the staff is warm and welcoming. It can get a bit hectic during peak hours, and prices are slightly steep, but the quality makes up for it. Perfect for a cozy coffee break or light bite—highly recommend!
