It's a very well maintained and planned city market.Marktplatz in Germany often serves as the central meeting point in a city or town, where locals and visitors come together to shop, socialize, and experience the local culture. Historically, these marketplaces were essential for trade and commerce, and many of them still retain their traditional charm. In addition to the regular weekly markets, many Marktplatz also host seasonal and festive markets, especially during Christmas time, known as "Weihnachtsmarkt" or Christmas Market. These markets are famous for their festive decorations, Christmas-themed stalls, and various treats like Glühwein (mulled wine) and Lebkuchen (gingerbread cookies). Marktplatz often features iconic landmarks, historical buildings, and statues, making them not only commercial hubs but also cultural and historical attractions. Visitors can explore the architecture, enjoy the local cuisine, and absorb the vibrant atmosphere of these lively market squares. Some famous Marktplatz in Germany include Marienplatz in Munich, Heidelberg Market Square, Cologne's Alter Markt, and Rothenburg ob der Tauber's Marktplatz. Each Marktplatz has its unique character and offerings, reflecting the diversity and rich history of the region it represents.

Leipzig, magical historic town Finally after several days of stormy & cold weather the sky brightened & the sun came out, giving us the opportunity to explore central Leipzig What an amazing place to explore, most of the interesting buildings and attractions are all so close together, that exploring the place made it a breeze! The Center of the City is its marketplace, (no markets on this day) surrounded by the Mayoral Building and various other structures of interest! St. Thomas & Nicolai Churches are within a few minutes of Walk, St. Thomas‘s fame as the place where Johan Sebastian Back spend many years composing & performing ! It was a wonderful day out in a city Center of interest steeped in history Enjoy this small pictorial! #germany #traveladventures #drivingholidays #leipzig #leipzigmarket #leipzigoldtown

The heart of the City of Leipzig. I live in Leipzig, and if you visit our city: One insider tip: Forget the tourist traps around the "barfußgasse". Overgrowded. Expensive. Boring. Walk around the old city hall and visit the small book shops. And if you wanne have a good evening in a good location: Just ask a local how to get to the "Gottschedtstrasse". Walk it down an visit the "Jamboree Cocktail Bar". You just have to walk 10 Minutes. It is not far away from the market place. But the Jamboree will be so much better. Excellent Cocktails for low prices. Just ask for "Jens" (the pricipal) and say him, "Fert" has recommended his place for you. He will you offer "anything" you want. ;-)

Marktplatz Leipzig is a charming square located in the heart of the city. The square is surrounded by historic buildings, including the old town hall and the St. Nicholas Church, and is a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike. The square is well-maintained and offers plenty of seating for visitors to relax and take in the surroundings. It's a great place to people-watch and soak up the vibrant atmosphere of Leipzig. In addition to the historic buildings, the square also features a daily market where you can find a variety of local produce, crafts, and souvenirs. If you're visiting Leipzig, a stroll through Marktplatz is a must.

Excellent Christmas Market in this thriving and vibrant City. It combines some stunning modern architecture with a beautiful old city full of remarkable buildings. Home to Johann Sebastian Bach and Mendelssohn, the City is a cultural delight. It has been awarded the "European City of the Year" in 2018 by the British Urban Development Academy. It is also notable for the Monday demonstrations which were instrumental in unification of East and West Germany in 1991. A city on a human scale well worth visiting

The Christmas Market in Leipzig is distributed throughout the central city which makes it great fun. There are several themed areas such as Finnish, an mideavil section, Austrian, etc. The merchandise and food are interesting, but not that unique, but a great place to snag a souvenir or two. Comparison shop, because some are different prices at different booths for the same item. Good food, too. Also plenty of fun rides to keep our 4 year old grand daughter inexpensively entertained.
