Bean batter is a cute spot in Munich. I had it flagged on my list of cafés to try on our mornings while visiting the city/country for Oktoberfest.

We walked in and approached the register but we weren't immediately engaged by the staff. Once we were acknowledged, we were told we could sit anywhere for table service and that someone would be with us shortly. We waited patiently for more than thirty (30) minutes for someone to take our order. It was then another half hour before we were biting into our food and taking our first sips. So it wasn't a good start. I would expect a café to be fairly quick with churning out orders quickly because people don't have forever in the mornings. They've got to get to work etc. Maybe that's not the case in the neighborhood. Maybe we missed something culture-wise. In any case, the staff/hostess did apologize for the long wait time.

For the record, the food was great! They're waffle specialists and their Chef's special did not disappoint. I'm not a coffee person but I did have a ginger tea that tasted great. My companion did have some coffee and she was definitely grateful for her cup. We also tried some pastries to go. Those were sweet (pun intended)!

So what's the bottom line? Go ahead and visit ... just maybe not on a day where you're crunched for time. It's close to several hotels so you can get your java fix if you're visiting for...

In general, I would rate this place a 5, but there are a few things that prevent me from doing so: The coffee cups are not just small—they are tiny. I’m used to drinking coffee in large cups, no less than 200 ml. That said, I have to admit that the taste of the coffee was absolutely fantastic! The price for such small cups feels overpriced. Either lower the price or increase the cup size! It’s a hipster coffee shop, with all the typical quirks: a slightly chaotic vibe, and the possibility of waiting significantly longer than usual for your order. Finding a table can be challenging, mainly because people seem to come here more to chat than to eat or drink. If your goal is to enjoy a quick coffee and a meal, it might not be the best choice. However, if you’re willing to wait and are looking for a place to hang out, it’s definitely...

Me “Hi can we order food here or do we sit down?” Service lady “We will bring you menus.” We sit and everyone behind us orders food and coffee at the counter. 10 minutes later I wait in line to order food and she says “are you eating in?”, “I say yes but we know what we want to order if it’s easier here.” “I will bring you menus I am busy.” Everyone behind me orders food at the counter. She brings menus. Then comes over to take our order and we ask for some food and she’s says “we are all out of everything. No food.” (They stopped serving food at 3 and it was 1). As we were leaving she was taking food orders at the counter. What did I do wrong? Couldn’t tell me no more...

Waffles with different toppings (savory tasted surprisingly better than sweet) Shakshukas (huge portions) and specialty coffee tucked into the narrow streets of Westend. Fast & friendly service, nice rustic vibe. 4 stars though - so may wasps flying around even inside - one can feel like a part of National Geographic for a sec. With the inability to eat properly due to them constantly flying around, one additional uncomfortable thing for me was the love to serve coffee in glasses instead of cups. If your cappuccino is hot - it’s is fairly impossible to hold one in hand, kudos to staff easily able to bring it to the tables 😳

It seemed really promising at first, the place looks really nice. They use coffee beans from a Munich based roaster called Jb that I really like, which makes their coffee taste very good. Unfortunately I was disappointed with the pistachio cream waffle, the cream had very little taste and it wasn't enjoyable. Service wise one waitress was very nice. Although I had a problem with trying to check the prices of the coffee beans they are selling. None of them had price tags on them and when I asked I got the answer: "it depends" which wasn't very useful. I suggest putting the prices on the bags.
