The food was good, and the atmosphere was nice. However, the reason I am writing this review is this: We got an unlabeled bottle of something on the table. As it is often with Italian restaurants, we assumed that it is olive oil, so my wife kept putting it on her dish. But she quickly started to complain to me that her dish is to spice/hot and that it was not marked on the menu. After a while she realized that it was not her dish, but the oil that was hot. We finished eating and when the waiter asked about how the dinner was, we politely told him that the food was good, but they should clearly mark the oil that it is hot. Then the waiter, instead of just taking our feedback, or maybe apologizing for it, started to tell us that the oil is red (it was a little orange cloudy instead of clean oil) and we should have know. To this I say, why would I know that red oil means hot. Then he showed us the clear oil, which he forgot to bring to our table. And sure in comparison one can see that there is a difference, but is still does not mean that it must be hot.
Anyway the point is when we offer a polite feedback we don't need a waiter telling us how we are wrong. Independently who is wrong he should not tell us that. And in this case it was his fault that he did not bring both oils to the table, and even then any kind of hot sauce should be...
Read moreI had heard good things about this place from a friend and was eager to try out the food. Sadly, I have to say that our experience was a huge let down. My friend and I got a vegetarian pizza (17 Euro for a normal sized pizza) to go for dinner. The place is spacious and gorgeous, but was not too busy when we arrived. The guy we spoke to behind the bar seemed very annoyed with us from the beginning. We waited by the bar for 20 minutes, after which we checked with the same staff if maybe they had forgotten our order. At this point he reached behind himself and grabbed a pizza box off the coffee machine that had been sitting there for a while, revealing it to be our order - which of course it wasn't hot anymore. We were taken aback but said nothing and paid. Before we left, I checked the box and saw that the pizza hadn't been cut into slices so I asked the same staff person if they could please cut it up, but he replied that they always cut their pizza - without taking a look at it. I insisted and he finally complied and took the pizza with him to cut it. No apologies when he came back, no friendly goodbye. I worked in hospitality for four years and know that this is not what good service is about. I will say that the pizza was some of the best I've had and the topping was very generous. However, I won't be going back and won't...
Read more2 stars solely for the staff—who are absolutely amazing! Friendly, funny, and genuinely entertaining, they really do their best to make guests feel welcome.
Unfortunately, the food tells a very different story. The quality has noticeably declined, even as the prices have continued to rise. I had the antipasti plate, which was extremely disappointing—it tasted like it had been sitting open in a fridge, and everything on the plate had absorbed the same stale, unpleasant flavor. The so-called parmesan was just a dense block of cheap cheese, definitely not the real deal. The prosciutto was cut far too thick and was unpleasantly stringy, while the grilled vegetables were served cold, overly oily, and had a strange smell, again suggesting very poor storage.
The pizzas seem decent at first, but once they cool down a bit, the dough and toppings (mostly being the cheese) turns rubbery, which makes me question the quality of the ingredients or the preparation. As for the pasta—wildly overpriced and nowhere near worth what you're paying.
Overall, the kitchen desperately needs a refresh—not just in ingredients, but in mindset and execution. Being open only in the evenings doesn't help either, especially now that L’Osteria has moved into the neighborhood and is clearly setting a higher standard. A MUCH...
