When you visit a Bräustüberl, you go with certain expectations. A louder, more casual atmosphere, big seating arrangements, lots of traditional beer and large potions of classic Bavarian dishes. This restaurant offers a slightly more cozy, albeit not quiet, version of such an experience with a few notable differences: The beer selection is wider than usual. Giesinger knows how to brew traditional beer but they aren’t afraid to shake things up a bit too. I appreciate the variety they offer, keeping what I imagine to be true to the Bavarian beer spirit while offering more than just Helles and Weizen. They even had an alcohol-free IPA! The food is a not your average beer hall food. It’s the fancy version of Bavarian food I’ve always wanted to eat without any air of pretentiousness. The Zwiebelrostbraten is huge and cooked to perfection. The Bräuersschnitzel is a Cordon Bleu with Obadza instead of cheese. The Schweinebraten is a crunchy, fatty, rich slab of meat. All come with a generous portion of side dishes. The appetizers we had included smoked trout and beef tartar. They were delicious and showed technical competence from the kitchen as well as attention to the aesthetics of the dishes’ presentations. Without a doubt I will be there again, either to eat or to drink. Hopefully both! P.S. If you like dark beer, go with a few friends and try the Eisboch! You won’t be sorry.

After exploring central Munich, we asked ChatGPT for suggestions on more local experiences nearby, and it recommended Giesing. We took a bus and arrived in about 20–25 minutes. After walking around the area for a bit, we decided to try a beer at this historic and traditional brewery. We arrived around 5 PM. The place wasn’t full, but they asked if we were going to eat. When we said we were only here for drinks, they didn’t seat us at a table and instead directed us to the bar area. This wasn’t a big issue, but considering the place has two floors and plenty of tables, it would have been nicer if they let us sit at a table. We tried three different beers: Das Weißbier, Das Dunkle, and Münchner Hell. Das Dunkle was my personal favorite 🍺 By the way, you can also order a beer tasting set, which comes in 100 ml glasses—perfect if you want to sample a few varieties. I’ve attached photos of the beer selection and the menu. In terms of both price and taste, we found it quite good. I think it’s worth stopping by here to give some local flavors a try while in Munich 🍻 Also, the outdoor garden area looked really nice—definitely worth checking out if the weather is good.

One of the best Bräustubern in Munich, situated in Giesing near Silberhornstraße U-Bahn Station, and across the street from the old Holy Cross church. They serve elevated Bavarian food, all made with a special touch. Try the Kaiserschmarrn - one of the best in the city with toasted almonds, Apfelmus (apples sauce), Pflaumenkompott (plum compote), and crispy Pfannküchen (pancakes). There are outdoor patios but the indoor tavern is also lovely. The brewery also sponsors many local sports teams, There is onsite parking (which before the pandemic they once transformed into a beach bar and barbeque). We were a table of 6 and the service was friendly and accommodating even though we stayed until after closing time. Highly recommend making a reservation on weekends.
