tl;dr: Thai bartaurant offering drinks, wine, thaipas (haaaa Thai tapas) and Thai food. Food is tasty and fairly priced.
The place: cramped and packed. Tables are places very close together, with just enough space for waiters to move around. It’s fairly loud and lively with guests talking. The decor looks nice, especially the wallpaper 😂
The food: I started with Tom yum goong. I thought the broth was a bit more watery than I expected. It was NOT spicy except for one derelict slice of red chili, which is probably my fault for assuming (it’s Germany after all). You could still taste the leaves and ginger (I think it was ginger and not galangal) and keffir leaves. I then ordered red curry with seafood and coconut flesh, which came in a hollowed out coconut. Cool! This dish was a bit overpriced IMO. It was mild and tasty, with shrimp, fish and scallops in there. Comes with WAY TOO MUCH rice :( so much that I couldn’t do dessert afterwards. Bummer. Fiancée enjoyed her sticky rice with mango while glancing at me with an air of superiority.
The service: up to par. Didn’t keep us waiting long for anything.
Fiancée says: wonton could’ve been crispier but I liked the sauce. Pad Thai goooood. Yeah. Mango with sticky...
Read moreOverall, I really enjoyed this place. The atmosphere is cozy and vibey whether it's a date night for dinner with friends. They have a great selection of drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic and what I appreciated was that the non-alc drinks still looked like a fancy cocktail. It's refreshing to see places do this because you still feel fancy even if you don't want alcohol.
We did the shared tapas platter which was yummy and interactive, however what I didn't like, was that it was all fried items. They have such an array of tapas that it would be nice to have a variety of textures in the shared platter. Altho, they did have a nice mango salad included, something steamed would have also added to a nice balance. (reason for me 4 stars)
We had the pad thai for our main course which was so good. I've been to Thailand and am very picky about this dish as I tried that the most while on my trip and I would say this dish was pretty nail on he head.
The staff were extremely friendly and made sure periodically that we were OK and if we needed anything which in my optinion as an American is great...
Read moreWe came here several times before and were quite pleased with its authenticity of Thai cuisine. However tonight we’re a bit disappointed by some dishes which we think they are more Vietnamese than Thai. The prawn cake is not in a “cake” style but just some nice fried and sauced prawns covered with sliced papaya strips, it tastes good but it has nothing to do with Thai prawn cake. It’s like ordering Belgium pancake and served with French crepe. Chu chee crab comes with the same issue. It tastes nice but it’s very far away from chu chee style. And the duck dish fails as the duck meat is too hard and dry. We accidentally learned that the chef was changed some years ago and now it is run by a Vietnamese chef. If I don’t have some knowledge about Thai cuisine maybe I would be ok and satisfied with their dishes. However my tongue wouldn’t let me. I think their food still have some charm, but probably they can’t advertise as an authentic thai restaurant if they are already blending styles with other cuisine. So we probably won’t go back again when next time we are craving for authentic...
