Swagatam — Restaurant in Munich

We were actually quite impressed with the 5 star rating of the place, so we decided to check it out. I am a big fan of Indian food. The restaurant did not disappoint. Taste wise is a bit mild but I like it because the spices are not overpowering, the sweetness of the mango sauce is on point. Not too sweet which is a plus point for me. I ordered fish talli knowing it is quite rare for Indian restaurant to pull it off. I got the selection of prawn dish, fish dish and shrimp dish. My partner on the other hand picked the lamb dish. The lamb is soft and the dish is seasoned well. The shrimp in the mango sauce is the star. We also got a free dessert. Yeay. We had a great lunch experience at Swagatam. The "Butter Chicken" and "Chicken Tikka Massala" we tried were tasty and satisfying, a pleasant surprise considering the affordable prices of the lunch menu. While you shouldn't expect gourmet quality at these prices, the food certainly exceeded our expectations. The standout feature, however, was the exceptionally attentive service; we felt warmly welcomed and thoroughly cared for throughout our meal. Even though we ate everything because we were hungry: There were a few issues with the food:

The vegetable starters (fried stuff like pakoras) were mushy and not crisp. The color of the coating was too dark, the oil needs to be changed once in a while. That is an absolute no-go. The tandoori meat was mostly good, although the shredded ones were a bit dry. Would remove the shredded (beef or lamb?) from the platter if freshness is not guaranteed. Rice and naan was ok. The jalfrezi curry is lacking spices (not necessarily chili) so it was a tad bland.
