Wonderful Trattoria Across the River – Well Worth the Short Bus Ride (No. 52)

Trattoria Santa Maria offers a charming atmosphere, delicious handmade pizzas, and a tempting selection of pastas, fish, meat dishes, and, of course, desserts. The service is warm, friendly, and professional, making for a truly enjoyable dining experience. An English menu is also available.

As expected from a good trattoria, the menu is extensive. I started with Vitello Tonnato, a classic dish done beautifully—the veal was perfectly tender and pink, while the tuna and caper sauce was piquant and flavourful. I found myself scraping up every last drop with my bread.

For the main, I chose the Pizza Frutti di Mare. While tasty, it was slightly underwhelming, with only a small seafood medley. Personally, I love seafood pizzas piled with big, juicy prawns, mussels, and chunks of baby octopus smothered in garlic—but that might be too much to ask this far from the ocean in Munich! One touch I really appreciated was that since we decided to share the pizza, it was brought to our table already divided onto two plates—a small but thoughtful detail that sets a great restaurant apart.

For dessert, we enjoyed a classic Tartufo and a plate of two warm ravioli filled with poppy seeds and smothered in cinnamon — both simply delicious.

Trattoria Santa Maria is absolutely worth the short trip if you’re looking for a reasonably priced, tasty, and memorable meal. Our bill for two, including drinks, came to around €75, making it excellent value for the quality of food...

My recent visit to this restaurant in the neighborhood left much to be desired. I had read the reviews here and they were all extremly positive; therefore, our negative experience came as a surprise. The service was slow, and the overall experience was marred by a flavorless carbonara. While my friend's pizza arrived promptly, my carbonara was significantly late. By the time it finally reached our table (after reminding them twice), my friend was nearly done with his pizza that had anyway grown cold from waiting. Unfortunately, the carbonara failed to deliver any enjoyable flavors, despite the appearance of high-quality ingredients. It was a surprise, as I have never encountered such a tasteless version of this classic dish.

Regrettably, the subpar service continued throughout our meal. Despite the restaurant having only a handful of customers (as it was early on a Wednesday evening), we had to endure a lengthy wait for the bill.

As a resident of the neighborhood, I had hoped for a better dining option, but sadly, this restaurant fell short of my expectations and we left without having enjoyed a warm meal together. Normally, I try to give places a second chance because sometimes it can just be bad luck, but I will not be...

Super Ambiente und toller Service. Wir haben folgendes gegessen/ getrunken und können alles empfehlen: Bad Brambacher Mineralwasser- sehr erfrischen und dazu eine Flasche Clic (Bianco) die Beschreibung in der Karte hat sehr genau die Eigenschaften des Weins abgebildet. Gemischter Vorspeisenteller: Eine Variation aus Parmaschinken, Büffelmozzarella, Kirschtomaten, Rucola, gegrillter Zucchini und Melanzane, Artischocken und dazu noch das beste Saltimbocca mit dem aromatischsten in Salz eingelegten Kapern die ich je gegessen habe! Wirklich überdurchschnittlich! Hauptspeise: Die Pasta all‘ Arabiata war aldente. Die Soße war sehr fruchtig-frisch und besaß die richtige Schärfe- sehr gelungen! Die Steinofenpizza Capricciosa war top! Kennt ihr das Gefühl, wenn man in die Pizza beißt und der dünne Boden knuspert, voller Röstaromen, während euch der Geruch und der Geschmack von frischer geschmolzenem Mozzarella, Oliven und Prosciutto in die Nase und in den Gaumen steigt? Einfach nur kulinarisch befriedigend! Das Ganze wurde durch das gereichte und hausgemachte Chilli- und Knoblauchöl noch abgerundet, hätte aber auch ohne grandios geschmeckt! Preis-/ Leistungsverhältnis: 2 Flaschen Wasser, 1 Flasche Weißwein 28€, 1x gemischte Vorspeise, Pasta und Pizza und ein Espresso Doppio= 78€ ohne Trinkgeld. Absolut fair und gerechtfertigt. Fazit: Wir hatte hier vorher nur zum Abholen bestellt und waren hier schon sehr zufrieden. Das Essen vor Ort ist nochmal eine Stufe darüber. Wir waren sehr begeistert und hätten es zuhause nicht so gut kochen können! (Was wir nicht oft feststellen) Ein wirklich authentisches italienisches Restaurant mit Service nach deutschem Standard/ Erwartungen. Sehr zu empfehlen! Vor allem AUCH für Koch- und Lebensmittelkompetente Kritiker! Bei der Weinauswahl lehne ich mich nicht aus dem Fenster, weil sich andere hier besser auskennen, aber ich würde die Anzahl bei Mittelgroß ansetzen. Die Tableware war größernteils Italienische Mittelklasse und die Tassen mit Illy Branding. Die Kunststoff- Weinkühler hat nicht ins Bild gepasst. Verbesserungsvorschlag: F&B: Edelstahl- Weinkühler, Tableware von BHS o. ä.- hält länger und sieht auch länger wertiger aus, weil weniger Abrieb von Besteck auf Teller, weil Härte abgestimmt. Raumakustik: Schallisolierung an der Decke wäre noch möglich, es hallt sehr und deshalb werden Gespräche schnell vom Gesamtpegel verschluckt. Die Musik verstärkt diesen Effekt noch. Durchgehende leise italienische Musik ohne Werbung und ohne Unterbrechungen (hat leider an diesem Abend unsere Stimmung etwas gedämpft) würde das Ambiente unterstreichen, wenn der Schallschutz verbessert wurde.
