Ikigai Neustadt an der Weinstraße — Restaurant in Neustadt an der Weinstraße

I've been a regular at Ikigai in Neustadt/Weinstraße for four years, and I've tried nearly everything on their menu. The food has always been fresh and well-prepared, with my absolute favorite being the Pataya Pad Thai with shrimp (#92). Unfortunately, over the past three months, the dish has changed for the worse. The sauce is now too sweet, the noodles overcooked, and the shrimp, while larger, are rubbery and unpleasant. It's disappointing, as this dish used to be exceptional.

During the same period, I also revisited the chicken curry, which used to be another highlight. Sadly, the quality has declined, with the chicken tasting rancid, a stark contrast to how good it used to be.

Despite these issues, the sushi remains fresh and tasty, though not particularly innovative. The service is friendly and efficient, but the no-card-payment policy is frustrating in this day and age. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, but the recent decline in food quality, particularly the Pad Thai and curry,...

Wir waren zu zweit an einem Samstag Abend nach Reservierung dort. Es war so gut wie nichts los. Wir kamen auf Empfehlung von Freunden. Die Angestellten sind sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend und das Restaurant geschmackvoll mit schönen und frischen Blumen dekoriert. - alles super 👍🏻 Aber man geht ja nicht des Ambiente wegen ins Restaurant.

Jeder in der Region sollte das KOZA kennen. Und daran lehnt sich auch das Ikigai stark an. Fast identische Speisekarte und Gerichte - mein Eindruck.

Leider schafft es das Ikigai nicht ans KOZA heran. In den Grundzügen vielleicht gleich, so liegen in den Bereichen des geschmacklichen Volumens (z.B. Curry), Raffinesse, Frische und Optik Welten dazwischen.

🔸Die Sauce meines Curry war im Ikigai sehr flach, wässrig/ohne Körper und mit wenig Geschmack. Sehr einheitlich. Im KOZA ist es eine Wucht an Aromen.

🔸Die Salate im Ikigai sind mit einem ordentlichen Anteil an Eisbergsalat. Das ist m.M.n. nicht Fusion sondern sparen. Im KOZA enthält der Salat Wildkräuter, Babyspinat, etc. (Wildkräuter müssen nicht Mal teuer sein - Giersch, Löwenzahn, Schaumkraut, etc.) 😒

🔸Mein bestelltes Curry mit Ananas enthielt ganze zwei kleine Stücke Ananas. 😂

🔸Die leckere Panade an den Crunchy-Rolls war so gut nicht vorhanden und hat fast nur nach Sojasauce geschmeckt, das Gemüse im Inneren leicht sauer.

Insgesamt okay. Die Verknüpfung zum KOZA ist schon gegeben. Leider ohne das gewisse Extra und den Kick im Essen und daher hat es den Anschein eines Abklatsches. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Preislich auch etwas zu hoch für das gebotene. (0,4 l schale Saftschorle = 4,20€) 😐

Die Toilette ist NICHT barrierefrei und im letzten Eck des Lokals...

Nicely done restaurant with cozy vibe. We went there as a group for a dine out. The food was good, but a bit too much on the sweet side. The sushi we had was well prepared, and the presentation of all the dishes was beautiful. Service was friendly but a bit spotty and rushed. I guess because the place was full and pretty busy. I found the lighting a bit dim, but that's a minor comment. Another oddity was the cash only policy, which is not convenient. All over it was a nice experience, so chances are we will go back for...
