Hörbis is one of a few Oberammergau restaurants, in this case an Imbiss, created by a younger generation trying to bring new flavors to the area with locally sourced ingredients. It is a cozy little food spot with about 6 tables and an open kitchen. The chef is happy to offer your selection to go, however.
I found this to be an awesome new addition to the local selection. It gets away from the overdone Bavarian cuisine, and offers a decent burger (classic or spicy) burrito, and Schnitzel. They also have a daily special, the night I went it was Red Curry Turkey. I'm not into turkey, but it looked pretty decent. The Schnitzel is good, pounded very thin. The burgers were awesome. I ordered the Schoafe (spicy) and was delighted to actually find heat. The patty was good and cooked to medium. The Burrito was a highlight. Read moreLet me start by saying wow! If you’re looking for something flavorful and spicy, come here. “The Spicy” burger is delicious, you can ask them to make it a bit spicer (for my not so sensitive people).
The staff is friendly, speak English, and overall a great experience.

I didn’t get a picture of the spicy burger, I ate it way too fast. But here are the fries before I destroyed them…
Update: I forgot to mention the prices…you’re not going to break...

The fries aren’t your typical American chili cheese fries but rather fries with cheese and chopped chilis; they were addictive. The side salad had a nice vinaigrette on it which was a refreshing comparison to many of the cream based dressings we’ve had while in Bavaria. The staff were kind and accommodating, they didn’t seem to mind speaking English. Prices were fair. Id definitely recommend stopping by for lunch. Seating is limited so it might be worthwhile to...
