Kneitinger Keller — Restaurant in Regensburg

Visited: May 6 (WED) 16:45-23:25 Two hours in the beergarden. A few glasses. Two waiters. No complaints. Inside: A table with elderly regulars (five males, one female) ranting on about foreigners (which they called "Kanacken" and other four-letter words), swearing, harbouring a lot of hatred and xenophobia and envy, although the morons seemed well-off themselves. No brains there at all. We found it annoying. If you don't understand any German, you might let it pass as "local pub talk"... Ordered the "Schweinshaxn und Knödel & Sauerkraut" (10€90). Dumpling a bit too small for my liking, but tasty. Sauerkraut standard, nothing special. Sauce: mediocre, too thin. Now for the meat: way too small and with a weird sour taste to it, the skin like plastic, re-heated probably - a few years ago any Bavarian Inn would serve you a proper Haxn (roast pork hock joint) with crispy skin and great natural taste. What I got looked like a withered kidney on a stick, somewhat familiar - yes, you get them (two or three vacuumed at a discount rate) at ALDI! A massive offense on a plate. Never again. Mate of mine had chips (serrated ex-freezer mass produce variety) - at Kneitinger one would (and should) expect homemade chips. No joy, no effort there. The beer: yes, my favourite brand in the area, BUT: 3€40 for half a litre is over the top, too expensive!! Plus: every second pint is not filled to the indicated 0.5ltr line; hence you pay 3€40 for 0.4 --- not on! At least they politely served us until half eleven, only the staff, a mate and myself left. SUMMARY: OK place for a pint or two. You're better off buying a crate (ca. €15 = 20 btles) off the local supermarket and your sausages/meat from a local butcher. Foodwise: don't bother...

Früher war der Kneitinger Keller, der in puncto Essen und Trinken sowohl bezüglich des Preises als auch in der Qualität in Ordnung ist, ein Wirtshaus, wo man in bester Bayerischer Manier als Schafkopfrunde herzliche Aufnahme fand und einen schönen Abend verbringen konnte. Doch nun ist dies leider traurige Vergangenheit! Und das mitten in Regensburg! Laut Internetauftritt sei der Kneitinger Keller „Erste Adresse in Regensburg, wenn es um bayerische Gemütlichkeit geht. Hier finden Sie bayerische Lebensart pur.“ Meiner Ansicht nach ist diese Selbstauskunft eine Lachnummer: Jetzt ist dieses Lokal gewiss die allerletzte Adresse, wenn man Gemütlichkeit und bayerische Lebensart sucht. Nach Auskunft des Kellners, der uns recht wirsch und mit ziemlich provokantem Tonfall begegnete, hat der Chef den Schafkopfspielern „Hausverbot“ erteilt mit der Begründung, dass die Kartenspieler nichts essen würden. Im Grunde völlige Frechheit und sehr schade, solch eine Begründung aufzuführen! Gerade nach der Corona-Krise in der Gastronomie sollte dieser Chef über jeden Gast froh sein, der in sein Lokal kommt. Außerdem ist er gut beraten, wenn er seinem Kellner ein wenig mehr Freundlichkeit ans Herz legt. Die Absage erfolgte in recht harschem Ton und da nützte sein „Sorry, Jungs!“ gar nichts, passte aber gut zur Haltung des Chefs gegenüber den Kartlern. Unfreundlich, abweisend, ungemütlich! Daher keine Adresse mehr für uns, die wir immer wieder dort waren und auch Getränke und Speisen konsumierten. Gut, dass es in Regensburg empfehlenswerte...

This place almost got a better review. Beer is really good, food is okay at best. But the problem was service. Biggest issue with payment. The don't accept visa or card payment (only EC Karte, which nobody else has anymore), so I said that I will pay with cash, no problem. Except, I only had 100 euro bills, so they were super pissed that I didn't have kleingeld and were yelling at me. Another small problem is that it is a bit more expensive than other...
