Constanzer Wirtshaus — Restaurant in Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Konstanz

We came here for late lunch.

Food: Tender beef with spätzle - Beef was not on the tender side, more on the beafy/tough side. I liked the spätzle, perfect texture to me, compliments the sauce (could be abit too salty on its own or with the beef) liked the caramelised onions and fried onions on the spätzle. Spätzle outshine the meat in this dish.

Square pasta with potato cucumber salad - Everything is more on the vinegary side. Pasta tasted fresh but the fillings inside were also on the vinegary side. Not my kind of taste but others might like that.

Chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream - Texture of the cake was nice, more on the sweet side. I think the ice cream is the failure of this dessert. Ice cream was too icy, not creamy. Taste like some vegan ice cream I got back in Malaysia even though there’s milk and cream used in it. Also tasted way too sweet couldn’t identify the vanilla taste much.

Service - service was okay. The guy who took our order were acting abit cool I guess. The other guy who helped with our payment was great, attentive enough to give us another spoon as we only got one pair of spoon and fork for our dessert when we were sharing it.

Atmosphere - still a nice place to have dates by the river. I would come back for its ambience hoping they could also make better food to enjoy.

Nice Place Horrible Service. We went with our family to this restaurant and ordered the same dish (Schnitzel) for all children except for one, we ordered chicken without bread because one son is gluten intolerant. When the order came, the chicken was breaded and I asked if we could have a non-breaded chicken. First the answer was: No problem. Later the maitre in charge came and said No Way, and if we wanted to order something else we should pay the first order because it was clear that the chicken was ordered as breaded...! Later, everyone was served except our youngest son was served/eating, this man came 2 more times explaining that no exceptions would be made and that no orders are taken back. Anyway, interesting that having invested in such a nice venue, the experience is ruined by a waiter whose first priority is 'I get the money first'. I wonder if their house-rule is compatible with trying to get return-customers, because we aren't. Luckily there are very nice places...

After a long day of international traveling, the Missus and I along with our Canadian Westcoast cycling group looked forward to our first German meal in Konstanz at the Constanzer Wirtshaus.

Unfortunately, the service was lacking as it took almost 30 minutes to order our food. Surprisingly, 3 members of our group received their food within 5 minutes, albeit the food being only lukewarm. They finished eating their meals while 5 remaining members were still waiting for theirs. It took more minutes just to flag our server to check on our orders. Needless to say, it was obvious there were issues with the kitchen staff and our server working in sync. We found the food was just average and nothing exceptional.
