Great sushi, horrible customer relation skills from manager Derrick.
I've been a long-time customer of both the restaurant (in Cantonments) and seafood shop (Labone) for years since they opened.
Although chef and staff are awesome and very accommodating to customers, Derrick isn't. As the first point of contact to clients, not a good representative of Canoe Beach.
Several other people I have referred to Canoe beach (seafood shop) in the past, complained about rude staff and horrible service. However, after experiencing it first-hand from the manager; I clearly understand that this is a management problem that has seeped down to the rest of the business. If management does not respect and prioritize customers, how do you then expect staff to?!?
This is the kind of service that has unfortunately given Ghanaian businesses the negative rep of bad customer service and lack of people engagement skills that we are known for. We have to hold people accountable if we will ever rid ourselves of this tag. It starts with us, in our own little corner!
Perhaps, Canoe beach management can take some pointers from similar restaurants who have been in the industry longer; and have consistently maintained their exceptional standards of amazing food and ambience, as well as outstanding customer service e.g. Rockefellas.
No matter how great your food is, if your attitude sucks and you can't be polite to people, then you've totally missed the mark, and have ZERO business being in a service-oriented, customer-facing business/industry such as hospitality.
Long-time customer of Canoe Beach no more! I will take my business and money elsewhere, where at the bare minimum I will be treated with respect...
Read moreI am going to leave my old review below just so the owners can appreciate that I have been an adorer of their brand until today. Tried out the new location today and ambience was on point! Sushi and Salmon capacio were on point as usual. I mean the chef never gets this wrong. I have had it more than 30 times!
My spicy edamame was bland and had powdery pepper just sprinkled on. What I am used to is a pepper paste that is tasty and has a lot of depth. The ramen noodles which was meant to be spicy because we specifically requested for it to be so had literally none. I don't know what changed but I just didn't enjoy the food I have grown to love! Not impressed.

My favorite sushi restaurant. Evidence of “do not judge a book by its cover”.
From the outside, it looks regular in comparison to all the nice restaurants in Ghana. It’s not fancy looking but the fooooodddddd is everything!
If you love sushi, you should try the salmon carpaccio, their seaweed salad is also...
Read moreThis place is such a gem! I almost want to gatekeep it so bad, but sharing is caring so here goes my review.
When I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by Nana, the supervisor on duty. Her energy was so warm and infectious! Loved her so much. She ushered me to their upstairs outdoor seating and offered my date and I some fried calamari on the house. And wow, that was a huge portion of calamari on the house! The fried calamari was so yummy, my goodness!! My date and I ordered the takoyaki for starters and it was absolutely delicious.
We also ordered the dragon roll and the canoe’s gift sushi. Both types of sushi were amazing! The salmon used for the canoe’s gift was exceptionally fresh and I really enjoyed that. And the dragon roll is one of the best dragon rolls I’ve had in Accra! Very close contender to the dragon roll at Rockefellas.
My only complaint is how expensive the food was, but with that service and the quality of the food, I can close my eyes small.
I’ll definitely be visiting Canoe more often! And I hope you all have an experience as...
