Edit: I was told my visit was while they were still working out their start up issues so may give them another shot. Note the original review doesn’t state everything that went wrong.

The place looks great, nice ambiance, nice hostesses but it fell flat when it came to food and service. Maybe we had high expectations…

When I was initially seated I had to flag someone down to request a menu after waiting some time.

Ordered a whole array of menu items and was disappointed with most of it. Only one hand roll met my expectations, it was fantastic, the rest of the items were mediocre; on the bland and/or forgettable.

The service was very poor. Empty dishes sat cluttering our table the entire meal. I even arranged them nicely on the side for easy pick up but they sat there as she would bring more of our orders and squeeze them on the table. This really surprised me because when she brought the hand roll she requested that I eat it quickly as they needed those stands for other orders yet it sat on our table almost till the end with two other stands joining it.

Getting our server’s attention to place any order was a struggle, she didn’t come and check on us to see if we wanted any more food or drinks, even to get our bill was an unnecessarily difficult task.

We asked for room temperature water but got cold water, asked for warm soju but got cold soju.

We ordered a certain salad that was supposed to have seafood and requested a certain dressing on the side, the wrong salad came and her response wasn’t oh sorry my mistake but rather no that’s what you ordered and we don’t have that, we requested the menu and pointed out exactly what had been ordered and she only said oh that is different. No attempt to rectify her mistake.

Oddly we ordered the hand roll without the rice, very simple to make just one no rice, they came back to tell us we would be charged double because that’s what they do, we said fine and they made two hand rolls without rice. Don’t know why they couldn’t just make one as requested.

One should not be so disappointed after spending almost 2000ghc… we both agreed to stick to santoku for sushi despite...

Can’t decide between Chinese or Japanese Food? Don’t. Get both at this stunning Asian fusion restaurant in the heart of Accra, Ghana (in Labone to be precise). From the moment you step inside, the aesthetics and ambiance transport you. Its a perfect blend of modern, contemporary, elegance, warmth, and chic.

I chose to sit at the bar because I was dining solo, and that was hands down the best decision. The service was Top tier. From the waitstaff to the bartender, and even the manager who personally checked in on me to make sure I was having an amazing experience. But let me tell you about Steven, the bartender, he was definitely my favorite! I don’t drink alcohol, but I love a good aesthetically pleasing, flavorful drink, and he did not disappoint. He crafted two custom Mocktails that were absolute perfection and he even surprised me with a complimentary matcha tea after my meal and it was delicious—though, fair warning, very hot!

For food, I ordered the Dynamite Roll, Crispy Short Ribs, and Shrimp Tempura Roll. The short ribs were a manager’s recommendation, and I was skeptical since I don’t eat beef that often… but tell me why they were so darn good?! It was as crispy on the outside, sweet and tender on the inside topped with a mound of crispy shredded onions…yum! Definitely ordering again. The Dynamite Roll lived up to its name—the sauce had a little kick, but nothing unbearable, even for someone like me who doesn’t do spicy. The Shrimp Tempura Roll was a solid, classic choice. Everything was was very flavorful and plated beautifully.

Shogun delivered on every level—ambiance, service, and food. A must-visit in Accra for Sushi lovers, Chinese food lovers or anyone looking for a great dining experience. I can’t wait to come back and try the hibachi grill station,...

Visited 3-Feb-2024 afternoon It appears this restaurant allows for cigarette smoking in the inside closed sitting area. A gentleman was vaping at the table next to our table and when I informed the manager if he can please ask him to stop smoking inside, the manager angrily said to me “Well what am I supposed to do when you ask him to stop smoking inside and he doesn’t stop?”

When told the manager that I was sitting inside the restaurant before the group with the smoker smoking came to sit there and no one from the restaurant had asked the smoker to stop smoking inside the restaurant, then the manager dismissively told me to go and he would deal with it. The manager then went back to speaking on his cell phone. No one from the restaurant asked the gentleman smoking inside the restaurant to stop until I finally gave up and left the restaurant.

It would be better if Shogun restaurant has a sign at the entrance informing guests that smoking cigarettes and vaping is permitted in the inside closed sitting area of the restaurant so no customer would bother the manager and this and make the manager angry towards customers if they see someone smoking inside the restaurant. I was humiliated by his treatment towards me because I complained of the person vaping next to my table.

I wrongly assumed that no smoking was permitted in the inside sitting area of the restaurant that’s why I went to complain to the manager. I would never enter Shogun restaurant at Cantonments again as I am not comfortable with eating food and inhaling cigarette smoke from someone sitting inside the closed sitting area of the restaurant. I also don’t appreciate the angry and dismissive tone of the manger towards me as I don’t smoke. The customer service towards profiled customers is...

Overall: The place was a huge disappointment based on the expectations set by reviews here and the prices charged. The food was on average subpar the service messed up multiple times and the atmosphere felt a bit too reminiscent of a warehouse given its modern semi-industrial theme but still generally pleasant. Food: the Salmon taco appetizer was really nice even though they were a bit heavy on the mayo. The hot and sour soup did not taste authentic (some unusual spices were added to be different but it didn't work). The biggest disappointments were the sashimi and sushi despite it looking quite nice. The tuna and yellowtail sashimi tasted like it had been frozen for a while, the makarel sashimi was too salty (and old tasting) and the specialty makis and rolls tasted quite plain at times. The unagi nigiri was ok. The sushi overall was in parts quite similar to supermarket sushi, which was unacceptable at ~100 GHS per order. At the end it was quite telling that no other table are sushi and that everyone else focused on the other pan-Asian dishes. Service: The service staff must have had an off day or must have been new. She was friendly and polite, but forgot items on the order when did was served, mixed up sashimi and nigiri sushi, charged us for wrong (more expensive) items on the bill and had to call over colleagues to identify the dishes we were served. Atmosphere: it was nice modern semi-industrial decor with dark black and red metal theme but the space was a bit too large with high ceilings and that perhaps didn't do any favors to the ambient noise levels and could have benefited from partitioning. However the only partitioned area was for teppenyaki that nobody requested so a bit of wasted space where waitstaff was able to retreat to chit chat.
