Oh boi , the experience has changed dramatically, and it's SAD.
Well , we went there on a Saturday , the early hours of opening. We were attended by a gentle guy , nice smile , forgot to ask his name because he was so much vibrant and good at what he was doing.
We knew they just opened and works were ongoing , but , let me mention few of the many cons I noticed.
First of all , kudos for the new menu , and everything that has changed , yes it can be great , but the previous chez clarisse style and energy was better. We waited almost an hour to be told there is no atsieke and these two people made the experience worst. One of the guy in the kitchen , I don't know if he noticed that there is a glass showing everything what they do , he was talking recklessly and behaving like he does not care and the guy behind the counter , looking at people' faces. We just left and decided to go and eat else where.
I wont describe everything but , we know for sure , it's been good back in the days but now , we need something else from somewhere else.
Chez clarisse , mama Africa Still a pleasure to eat there over the years , with nice portions
The fish is still and will always be my favourite, accompanied with a good jollof rice (one of the best in Accra, for me) nd a nice Alvaro
Prices are good and affordable The location too is pleasant and with the new look is goes perfectly well, with a view of the kitchen making the customers feel like home, the place looks now more spacious and clean.
The service , the food , the ambiance , all these combined is a killing...
Read moreI go to this place every time I'm in Accra. I could highly recommend the tilapia or the chicken which I usually have with plantain and fried rice and we share. (Their jollof is nice though) The green sauce is amazing!
Although the prices have increased last time I visited and the portion sizes have become smaller there is still plenty of food. I've never paid more than 100cedis for two people eating with drinks (even with the new prices). It's really good value for money. Service is a little slow but that's normal for Ghana.
I made the mistake of ordering the avocado salad as a side once, which was a plate of salad covered in oil with a few rotten slices of avocado on top. I learned from my mistake and always buy one from a steep vendor before I came now and ask them to cut it for me. (Which they are happy to do)
The area isnt very nice surrounding and you have to step over a huge smelly gutter to get into the place. Inside the decoration is quite nice and traditional but the chair arms don't fit under the table so you can't sit with your back in the chair when you're eating which is a bit uncomfortable but overall not a big deal.
Be warned it's partially outside and even the inside isn't very covered so there are mosquitoes, there isn't AC but there are huge fans (which make your food go cold quickly). Also the toilets are never clean and don't lock so try to go before/after you come if possible.
Don't let my honesty put you off going because really the food is delicious and despite everything I still go every time...
Read moreWe checked 2 weeks ago; was closed for renovations. They really needed the remodel. Much cleaner restrooms now; and food is not on menu yet. Just reopened and we were so happy they are up and running again. This has been our fav place in Accra for 2 years now; the food and value is difficult to beat. They could learn a few lessons from Buka nearbye; the wine list, the offerings are spotty since they don't yet have a menu working, I assume they may have a new menu with new building. Still working on the upstairs, the main floor is up and working this week! Let us please encourage them for everything we want; I asked for house white wine tonight, the waiter looked at me like I'm an alien, and sold me a bottle of bad red wine for $10 USD so I was not real happy about that part.. but I will bring my own wine for Xmas night and they said I could open it. So in general, it will be difficult to get better service, better food and better terms in Accra! I love Chez Clarisse and hope/wish them all the best, I love the vibe, the food and hope they have the best environs in all of Accra/Osu. Cool music. Hope they get the menu...
