OVERALL IMPRESSION While I can commend the restaurant in certain areas, I can’t say I was particularly impressed during my visit. Interestingly, it seems to be quite popular for reasons I honestly can’t explain. One would expect that, despite years of customer complaints (mostly about service and wait times, some dating back over seven years—I actually went through several old reviews), Buka would have improved by now. To me, it felt just average and somewhat over-hyped. The FOOD I ordered jollof rice (I had hoped it was the Ghanaian version, though I forgot to confirm), grilled tilapia, and Ghana salad. Thankfully, I had no complaints about the taste—the food was delicious and spiced just right. The portion sizes were not particularly generous but decent enough. That said, I found the pricing unreasonable. Both the food and water felt overpriced, and the multiple extra charges added to the bill (apart from the VAT which I can understand) seemed completely absurd. The SERVICE This was, unfortunately, the lowest point of my experience. It took nearly 30 minutes just to get seated AND place my order. Although the staff were polite and welcoming, they seemed poorly organized. My salad arrived on time, but the tilapia and rice took a shocking three hours to be served. Like, I sat waiting for 180 minutes—completely unacceptable for any restaurant. To add to the frustration, the waitress (Stephanie) who brought me the bill withheld my change of 53 peswas, without explanation. The AMBIENCE & AESTHETICS On a brighter note, I genuinely enjoyed the soft background music and the restaurant’s clean, stylish setting. The atmosphere was fresh, relaxing, and visually appealing. The PARKING The parking space was impressive—spacious, well-marked, and able to accommodate plenty of cars. FINAL THOUGHTS Would I return? Honestly, I’m not sure. Time will tell.

Buka is an authentic African cuisine place located right in the happy town of Osu. Osu is the happiness center and Buka is its food capital. The ambiance is on point with the feel of a late 80s African vibe of an old cooking stove, and cauldron from my grandma's Era. Love the thought put into the environment which blends nature and man-made to make you feel you are out of the city. There are always enough waiters available on standby so you are catered to easily. You have your waiter from start to finish. The food is great and love the smooth selections that are so enormous that if you take one each day, it will take you the whole year to run through. The location is child friendly and I love the service. Cover legs and arms as mosquitoes are as many as the troubles of man...lol..repellents make the mosquitoes ticklish and more hungry whiles it's not effective it just makes it more difficult for people around you to breathe (so just wear cover-ups) In all, it's a good vibe and is an awesome place to meet a lot of people from all countries. For my budget-friendly staff know that the food menu comes without taxes. Looks inexpensive but when you add taxes, you are no longer budget-friendly guys. Stay curious my friends.

Buka Restaurant in Osu, Accra is a destination that instantly enamors you with its great ambiance and comfortable Ghanaian design. As a connoisseur of local dining, I found the online reservation system on their website extremely efficient, ensuring a hassle-free dining experience. My table was situated in a room on the upper floor, which offered an intimate and pleasant setting. I was immediately drawn to the digital menus, accessed by scanning a QR code on the table, a touch that perfectly blends tradition with modernity. The meal commenced with a refreshing egg tuna salad, which was well-balanced and flavorsome. The jollof rice with beef was tender and perfectly seasoned, while the fish breast accompanied by kelewele was an absolute delight, showcasing the culinary finesse of the chefs. The service throughout the meal was commendable, attentive without being intrusive, making the entire dining experience feel personalized and special. I can't recommend Buka Restaurant enough to anyone looking for exquisite local dining in Accra. From the tastefully decorated interiors to the wonderfully prepared and delicious food, it stands as a testament to the rich culinary tradition of Ghana. A must-visit, indeed!

Been to Buka Restaurant twice within two weeks in December 2023.

1st experience was GREAT, I ordered banku with grilled tilapia and a bissap for drink. Food was so tasty and yummy. Service from the server was great and smooth as well. Went around evening time and it was not busy in the sense that my partner and I were seated immediately around 1900. 10/10 experience.

2nd experience was awful. Arrived to the restaurant at 1446 and it was SOOOO busy with people traffic which is fair because there are a lot of tourists around this time of the year (AKA "detty december). I went straight to the hostess to put my name down for a table for 2 (for myself and a friend) and she told me that it was going to be between a 25-30 minute wait. Wrong, we ended up getting our table at 1600. I understand that during busy times, some servers can get frustrated and even end up making mistakes. Unfortunately our server did not tend to us with our needs whenever we asked. My friend asked for ice for our drinks four times, and our server kept on forgetting. I ordered kontomire stew with boiled yam. When the food came, it came with a silver cover over the plate - I took the silver cover off and it did not look like what I had ordered (I think it was empusi stew with rice). I called the server and she realized that she accidently swapped my order with the neighbouring table's order so swapped it back. The kontomire stew did not taste the greatest anyway. Meanwhile, my friend ordered half chicken plus fried yam fries and she said it was "ok". I also ordered gari fortor plus kelewele as TAKEOUT so I could give it to my partner to eat when I got home. When it came to paying for our bill, our server did not split it.

When I got home, I opened the takeout for my partner just to check. Unfortunately, Buka got the takeout partially wrong. It was gari fortor in one container and there was another container but it wasn't kelewele - it was an already bitten chicken. I called the restaurant twice to make a complaint and at least find a solution. Twice, it was a different voice over the phone and both of them said that they were going to talk to the manager and call back. It's the next day as I am typing this, and they have never called back once with a solution.

My only honest feedback is that the people at Buka should tend to fix their mistakes - especially if it's a takeout order. Because if there were any mistakes that happened while dining inside the restaurant then I'm sure the mistakes would've been handled appropriately. But why not handle the mistakes of a...

I’ve visited Buka Restaurant three times, with my most recent visit being yesterday. While the food is undeniably delicious, the overall experience is let down by poor queue management and lackluster service.

During my visit yesterday in December, my friends and I were told the waiting time for a table would be an hour. We eventually got seated after that time, but then had to wait an additional hour and a half for our food to arrive. To make matters worse, I had ordered snails and was looking forward to trying them, only to be informed last minute when our food ARRIVED that snails were out of stock. The lack of communication about menu availability was very frustrating.

There was a long queue of customers outside waiting to be seated, including those who had made reservations. It’s disappointing to see that even reserved seats were not honored in a timely manner, with some customers waiting over an hour to be seated. Some customers to use the seats to continue conversations despite the fact that they had finished eating and paid their bills. Seeing this whilst waiting to be seated was very frustrating and staff don’t seem to know how to handle such situations. This indicates a serious flaw in queue management.

The staff, though extremely nice and polite, seemed disorganized. Simple questions took an eternity to get answers, and there was a noticeable lack of coordination between them. It’s clear that processes need to be improved to ensure smoother service and better communication.

Another concern is the environment within the restaurant. The absence of air conditioning in the main dining areas makes the experience uncomfortable, especially during hotter months like December. Adding AC would greatly enhance the dining experience.

Lastly, while the food is great, the service doesn’t match up. Paying for service charges feels unjustified when the wait times and overall service quality are so poor. Waiting 1.5 hours to be seated and the same amount of time for food is completely unacceptable. I would rate the service a 4/10.

Buka has so much potential due to its excellent cuisine, but until the queue management, service, and comfort issues are addressed, the overall experience will continue to suffer. I hope to see...

(CAUTION!!! IF YOU WANT GOOD SERVICE MAYBE DONT GO HERE) Atmosphere was excellent very cheerful and nice, with live music and fans everywhere it was a very pleasant place to be at the only down side was the waitress Abena was so angry at us because she misunderstood our drink order and had to have another drink made, she then proceeded to give us the worst service ever! She rushed us to order because she was not satisfied with us ordering appetizers first smh, She ignored our needs the entire meal, while she danced and had fun with coworkers in the back, which is very unfortunate because this was our first experience here at this restaurant while here on our honeymoon, and I’m fearing it will be the last, she made our night miserable with her terrible attitude and rudeness. We ordered wings and a salad for appetizers, we never got the salad, never got asked if we wanted anything else to drink, she quickly picked up plates and left before we could ask for anything else, honestly what was supposed to be a nice romantic evening got ruined by a very petulant childish waitress. I lost my appetite and neither of us could finish our food. Honestly the Guinea foul I had was dry asl with almost non existent meat, so if your hungry don’t order it, but I would have loved to have one of the nice coconuts everyone was drinking but Abena made sure she didn’t stop and attend to us so we couldn’t ask for anything else..I would have liked another cocktail to pay for with my hard earned money too! but she made sure we didn’t get a speck of anything more than what we originally ordered and less honestly if you count the salad we never got, but it’s a real shame that workers will run your business into the ground with poor service and attitudes. I gave up and asked for the check and decided to leave and of course she came and snatched the placemats and walked off without a second glance, not a thank you not a see you next time after we payed. EXTREMELY EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE the worst thing is when I tried to speak with a manager I was told he was otherwise “occupied “ code for im not dealing with any dissatisfaction from...
