A big disappointment overall the first time. Update: I went a week later in the evening with a friend of the owner and had an entirely opposite service and experience, first class treatment. Will have to go a third time solo and see before I fully change the rating, for now I’m moving it from 2 to 3 stars.
Service was poor, the place was empty, there was a black couple done with their meal when we came and three tables with different foreign pairs ie Asian duo, Caucasian duos. I state their nationalities because the servers seemed to be giving better service to them than us which my friend pointed out a few times in our meal. We were sitting right by the servers but had to flag them down continuously. One of the meals we ordered was very off, spoilt prawns and we got no apologies, the manager didn’t even bother to come check on us no one addressed the issue.
The place is beautiful, simple, chic, the greenery is lush. The car in the front, a cute touch. Everything was aesthetically pleasing.
Food started off well then went downhill. The breadsticks were soft and a great premeal snack. We had the seafood mix starter which had deep fried fish, prawns and octopus. It was great. Fresh, light and crispy. So we were very surprised when the linguini pasta ordered had a very different tasting prawn than the starter. It smelt very fishy and tasted spoilt, You couldn’t even swallow it you had to spit it out. It attracted the flies who continued to bother us till a server finally went to get the device that is supposed to ward off flies after I continuously was swiping away at them. We told the server about the amount food, he took it away and that was it, no one spoke to us about it.
A chicken parmesan was ordered but she was unable to eat it, had lost her appetite. The tomato sauce tasted very processed American like sugar has been added. The wedges were nice
I ordered the vegetarian pizza and it was okay, I only had two slices and packed up the rest. The vegetables were very few and extremely thinly sliced and it was cold fast. A pepperoni pizza was ordered to go which they almost forgotten about since we paid and the server left without bringing it out till we asked as it was on the bill.
Drinks; the cocktail I had was nice but I only had one, the server never once came to ask if I’d like another and we had to flag down another server to get water.
Had it been a busy time I would have been understanding but for most of our time there the servers were hanging out by the bar or server station, both by us and there were only three other groups of two there.
My friend said that was going to be her first and last time there. I e give it another chance.
Forgot to take pictures of the pizza and the pasta…
Update: It was busy yet or food was expedited. I had the steak which was superb. I highly recommend it. The dessert was...
Read moreUpdate: March 2022. I have hyped Pomona for the past year. I had enjoyed everything about the space, the cocktail and the pizza on several occasions until today. There was a mouse moving around comfortably in the outdoor patio area. When we pointed it out to the server, she was very nonchalant and did not seem concerned nor did she offer to do anything. She just asked us if we wanted dessert!
When we said that we wanted to speak with the manager, we were told that the manager wasn't there, only to find out that she was there but wasn't respectful enough to come and talk with us. When we asked about the supervisor, the server indicated he had gone to the bathroom. We waited for over 20 minutes to speak with someone, and it seems like they were stalling. Then the server came and said she had spoken with the manager and had been authorized to offer us a desert. We declined and said we wanted to speak with someone because we were dissatisfied with our experience.
As we were leaving, we saw that the manager was indeed there and we spoke with her while we were in the parking lot. She justified herself in saying that they had uncovered a family of mice while doing some construction work in the outdoor area and that they were "taking care of it" but that the mice don't die immediately. We said that they should have said something and at least acknowledged the issue and that it was unsanitary. Ultimately, the manager was incredibly condescending and disregarded our concerns, even to the point of puting her hands on my friend by patting my friend on her arm and closing the door of the driver's side. What disrespect!!!
This is such a big disappointment. It's not ok to ignore or disregard customers when they are expressing a concern, especially when it comes to sanitation questions. The fact that she thought it was ok to just wave us off was unacceptable. I used to love POMONA but will never be back. I would have considered a different type of review if this had been handled...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining my wife at Pomona Italian restaurant in Accra, and I can't help but gush about the remarkable experience we had. From the moment we walked in, we was enveloped in an ambiance that perfectly blended elegance and warmth. The ambiance at Pomona is nothing short of enchanting. The soft lighting, tasteful décor, and cozy seating created an atmosphere that was both intimate and inviting. The service at Pomona was impeccable and truly added a personal touch to our evening. The staff was not only attentive but knowledgeable about the menu, helping us navigate through the various Italian delicacies they had to offer. Their recommendations were spot-on, and they made sure every need was met with a genuine smile. The food at Pomona is amazing in itself. The steak my wife ordered was exceptionally good much to our pleasant surprise. To be frank, every bite was a burst of flavors that transported our taste buds to another world. The presentation of the dishes was delightful and the flavors matched the visual appeal. the old architecture of the building added to the home-like vibe the restaurant gives. The greenery on the grounds added to the lush nature of the restaurant. Whether you are seeking a romantic dinner, a celebratory meal, or just a night of indulgence, Pomona is the place to be. The tiny car in the front with the Italian streak running on its side is a nice photo spot. Pomona has captured my heart with its enchanting ambiance, impeccable service, and delectable Italian cuisine. It is not just a restaurant but more of an experience that lingers in...
