This is our first time in Kefalonia. This restaurant did not disappoint from the booking experience to the meal and overall evening. I booked online in the hope we could get a table on the same day. I know it is a very popular place. We had a response within a few minutes. Table booked for outside, not in the orange terrace. No problem. On arrival there was a ‘no show’ so we were shown to table 10 in the orange terrace which is beautiful. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. Our waiter ‘Costa’ went above and beyond. He gave a little guidance for the mains, and gave a fabulous wine recommendation to compliment both our mains. For starters I had the Baked Feta in Phyllo & Honey which was beautiful. And I’m not a lover of feta or honey, so a win. My husband had the Spetsofai which he enjoyed. For the mains I had the Εsperides Sole, which was sole wrapped in ham with blue cheese sauce. Again not a lover of blue cheese but it was very subtle so a pleasant dish. My husband had the Pork Medallions with Orange Sauce which was made all the better with a light dust of Costa’s magic pepper! Both the mains are the Chefs specialities but we had independently chosen these. Desserts were equally enjoyable. Orange cake for me and chocolate cake for my husband. All in all a great find and will definitely recommend and visit again. The wine we had was the San Gerasimo. Lovely and light which complimented both our...
Read moreMy visit to Esperides Restaurant in Srovanata, Kefalonia, was unfortunately marred by several issues that significantly detracted from the dining experience.
Despite the restaurant’s appealing setting and high TripAdvisor ratings, the service and food fell short of expectations. The staff appeared disorganised and inattentive. For instance, our table’s bread order was forgotten, requiring us to remind the server. Similarly, a second glass of beer I ordered never arrived, yet it was inexplicably included on the bill. When I requested the bill, the card scanner was presented with an immediate prompt to select a percentage tip, which felt presumptuous and uncomfortable given the service lapses.
The food, while heavily praised online, did not live up to the hype. It was average at best, and I suspect the glowing reviews may reflect the picturesque setting rather than the culinary quality. Additionally, the dining atmosphere was compromised by stray cats wandering among the tables and cigarette smoke from nearby patrons, which made it difficult to enjoy the meal.
When I raised concerns about the incorrect bill, the staff offered a complimentary shot as compensation, which I politely declined as I was more focused on ensuring my family’s comfort in the smoky environment. Overall, the experience was disappointing, and I would hesitate to recommend Esperides based...
Read moreWe went here last night - our last night in Kefalonia :( - on the recommendation of some other guests at our hotel. She told us to go on to Facebook and from there, you can WhatsApp them. I did this and had an immediate reply. We requested a table in the orange grove - which we got. It was absolutely beautiful and magical when the lights came on as it got dark. We've had some quite disappointing meals on many of our recent visits to Greece but our food last night at Esperides was amazing. We only wish that we'd known about it earlier in our holiday. We had bread and a tasty dip to start (nothing heavy as we knew that we needed to leave room for dessert!), I had pork fillet in an orange sauce and my husband had chicken à la king. That came with chips which my husband couldn't stop raving about! I tried one and they were exactly as chips should be - fluffy inside and crispy outside. For dessert he had the orange cheesecake and I had the orange cake and ice cream. We each tried some of each other's and it was all so scrumptious. We were served quickly by very friendly waiters. We'd had a drink each and the total bill was €59. We couldn't believe it was so reasonable. I can't recommend this restaurant enough. If anyone goes and doesn't enjoy their meal there has to something...
