We were really looking forward to coming to Lorraine’s Magic Hill after hearing lots of hype and good reviews online. However, we left feeling very disappointed.
I want to start off by saying the restaurant is absolutely beautiful and has a magnificent view of the beach. We got to see the sunset which was lovely. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very relaxing. The staff were also great, but we were told we would have the specials explained to us by Lorraine but she didn’t come over to us and spoke to other diners instead, so we had to ask another server for the information. They also asked if we were paying cash or card in advance (10% discount if paying with cash).
We started with some drinks, I had the Kiwi spritz and my partner had some white wine. The drinks were refreshing and tasty. For appetisers, we ordered the homemade bread rolls, beetroot tzatziki and the special meatballs. The tzatziki was very tasty, with lots of cumin and very garlicky, but we liked that. The bread rolls made were also lovely and very soft. The meatballs were just okay but under seasoned and a little bland. I wish we had left then because it went downhill from there.
I ordered the chicken Robola and my partner had moussaka. My partner’s moussaka was quite cold and tasted overwhelmingly of cinnamon. I understand that cinnamon is used in moussaka as we enjoy an authentic moussaka, however, it was literally all we could taste. The chicken Robola is probably one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. The chicken was very dry and chewy like it had been cooked hours before and re-heated. The sauce was so flavourless I had to add salt and pepper and it was still bad. Additionally, the rice was very hard and undercooked. We were so disappointed as we had expected the quality of the food to be much better, given the reputation.
I really would prefer not to write a bad review but it’s important to share this experience honestly. We both agree that this meal was the worst we have had on our two week trip and also one of the...
Read moreLorraine's Magic Hill is, as the name already suggests, located above the Lourdata Beach. You can park directly at the beach and walk up or you drive up and park next to the resraurant. The way to drive up is directly after Klimatis Tavern.
Under the restaurant is their bar, so perfect if you only want to have a drink or cocktail. The cocktails we had were good, from my point of view the best was their homemade sangria. From the bar and also the restaurant you have a great view over the beach and sea.
Today we were in the Restaurant for dinner. We had 3 starters, the tzatziki, gigantes (big beans) and the feta in the oven with fresh vegetables. The Gigantes were indescribably delicious and the other 2 starters were also well.
My wife chose the special of the day the cod fish and discussed with the very sympathetic and courteous waitress that she don't like spices and would like to have the cod without any spices. She told us that this is not possible because they already prepared the whole cod for cooking but there were not too much. Nevertheless we decided to try the special. Unfortunately for my wife were too much spices so that is was not possible for here to eat the fish.
What now happened is really great service. The waitress ask if my wife enjoys the cod fish. We explained her the situation and she offered to change the main dish to another one. So we changed to the sea bream and the dish was amazing tasty for my wife. Because of we were so full we didn't had the chance to try a desert.
The service was fast, always available and very generous. The food was tasty, the view was great, we had a good time here.
Absolutely recommended. We will come back,...
Read moreThe evening started with me being typically disorganised and not bothering to book a table until the last minute.
One of the hosts though saved the day with an extra seat in the bar area.
When we were arrived the host immediately recognised me as the hopeless chap who even forgot to leave a name at time of booking and sat us down at a lovely table overlooking the beach, we promptly ordered a very reasonably priced bottle of Robola white wine.
We were then greeted by this gregarious woman who happened to be Lorraine. You cannot help but be mesmerised by her story, she explains her specials and shows photos of the food on her phone whilst she is preparing that would rival any food influencer's tick tok feed. What is not faked is the authenticity and passion that Lorraine exuded.
The food lived up to the hype, we had the chicken pita and her home made filo pastry and feta bake to start off with, the chicken pita a rich comforting hug on a plate and the filo pastry feta parcel with a satisfying crunch of the pastry, a tangy cheese finished off with sweet local honey.
Our mains my wife and I had the special leek stuffed sausage and she had the fresh seabream. Again a beautifully cooked fish which just peeled off the bones by was still firm and succulent where the sausage stew had complex depth of flavour and peppered with ouzo.
The only draw back whish was quickly rectified was my label of sausage stew only had about 3 slices of the sausage.... chef obviously forgot his glasses. Lorraine came over whisked my plate away and within minuets my plate was full of the suausage as well as the peppers and onions.
Please do visit this place and remember...
