Summary: outstanding service, fantastic food using very local ingredients, vegan and vegetarian friendly.
My partner and I had been in Kefalonia for a mere 9 hours before we visited Oskars. Sleep deprived and unsure of our bearings, we lay in bed as we tried to find an appropriate restaurant for dinner. My partner struggles to find plant based options abroad, and assured me that she was content with a week of chips and bread. However, this was before we knew of Oskars accessible menu and quality ingredients.
As we were about to give up, resigning ourselves to paprika Lays for the evening, I stumbled across this very same Google Maps page. Thankfully, photos of the menu informed me that a vegan Moussaka exists, and, heeding the prior advice from a native colleague, I addressed the party to don our evening-wear and hit the streets.
We braved the dimly-lit walk to the restaurant, and were rewarded with a well-stoked fireplace, a gorgeous backdrop of bossanova, and the most welcoming staff we could ever ask for.
To start, we enjoyed the Greek salad, crispy potatoes and the bread. All were excellent, with special mention to the bread, which was homemade and accompanied by olive oil and pumpkin soup, both grown from the restaurant’s garden.
For our main, we indeed went for the moussaka. I’m generally not a fan of dairy substitutes, however this was delicious. I would definitely recommend it to someone of any dietary preference.
Lastly, we sampled the house red, which was again delicious.
Last but not least, a special thank you to all the staff at Oskars tonight for impeccable service, but in particular our host who made us feel very welcome with perfect English.
I’d recommend Oskars to anyone...
Read moreStunning the best restaurant I have visited on the island. Great quality food at a very reasonable price, throw in some attentive service from the waiters and you have a perfect evening. We had three courses each, wine , water some soft drinks and coffee for juat over 60 euro which is a little dearer than we have paid in other places however well worth it. The highlight for me was the starter of rocket salad served with grilled cheese magnificent. The chicken for both main meals was cooked to perfection, a chocolate tart for dessert served with home made ice cream was a great way to finish the meal. The panacotta was also done to perfection. It is a little walk from the main strip however if you don't fancy the walk then you will only be a couple of euros in a taxi. If it's a fine dinning experience your after, beautifully furnished restaurant, in a relaxed setting great up to date back ground music look no further. A must visit for anyone looking for a great meal and a...
Read moreWe recently dined at this restaurant, arriving with high expectations based on the enticing photos and positive reviews. Unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing.
Our meal consisted of several shared starters and one main dish. We tried the burrata, which is just a type of pulled mozzarella, which tasted stale. They obviously don’t know what burrata is. The calamari, consisting of fried squid rings, was overcooked and had a rubbery texture. The crispy chicken dish was even worse. The Angus kebab sticks also failed to impress, leaving a poor taste in our mouths. Lastly, we sampled the ravioli with chicken meatballs, which, regrettably, was equally unpalatable.
The service was bad, trying to sell us even more of their bad dishes.
Despite its name, 'Creative Kitchen,' the dishes lacked innovation and surprise. Moreover, the restaurant's ambiance felt dated. We were quite disheartened to pay €104 for a meal that was far from satisfactory in...
