Melograno Restaurant — Restaurant in Argostoli Municipality

We came across this place on Instagram before our visit to Kefalonia, and added it to our ‘must visit’ list. We’re so glad we did!

The first time we visited (that’s right, we came back twice within 3 days), we sat outside in their ‘garden’ seating in the square. Comfortable seating, beautiful weather and absolutely gorgeous planting. We’re big fans of Mediterranean planing, so it was heaven to be surrounded by stunning native plants so thoughtfully placed. The interior is beautiful too, very comfortable and not one detail unthought of, even the step edging was brass and the drainpipes were copper. Incredible details like this throughout.

Granted, it wasn’t very busy either time we visited (once was mid afternoon and the second time it was chucking it down with rain), but the service was great. Very friendly and efficient.

We stayed for brunch and coffee the first time, and had dinner, drinks and dessert during our second visit. The menu selection was varied, and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, couldn’t fault it.

We’d specifically comment on the ‘deconstructed’ cheesecake. Wow. We shared it because we already had drinks and a meal, but there was plenty to share. It was rich, but not overwhelming, flavours were intense and so beautifully paired, we even considered ordering a second!

Details like the little slices of cake when you order a coffee make this place feel special and thoughtful.

We will definitely be returning to this restaurant when we’re back...

One of the strangest restaurant experiences we have had. We have eaten in most of the recommended restaurants on the island. They didn’t seem to know about our booking but rushed us to a table which wasn’t ready or cleared. Once we placed our order, the starter was rushed out within about 5 minutes before our drinks had even arrived. You would question how fresh the food was as it was so fast. The starters were very nice and cocktails very good, but the service was mad. There were waiters sprinting through the restaurant covered in sweat…! The restaurant was of a reasonable size so it was busy but it seemed over the the top to be sprinting everywhere! During our starter, they brought over our mains and tried to give them to us. We turned them away whilst we finished our starters. We are pretty sure they sat on the side until we had finished our starters which isn’t what you expect when you are paying €100 for a meal. Whilst the food was of an ok standard, it very much felt like they wanted you in and out and take your money with high prices for the experience you get. The fact they had three staff getting people into the restaurant and supposedly they were short staffed to serve said everything to us. Though the food service was (extremely) fast, the rest of the service was poor - we were not asked if we wanted more drinks, or how the food was or if we wanted dessert menus. Update: Well I can see that you're interested in having a clarification, I'll tell you what. We came by asking if we could sit for some wine. The guy told us that we shouldn't sit on the square it's only for dinner and they sent us at the hotel sidewalk. Of ourse we were ok with that! We understand. But after we sat down we saw that another couple that sat there at the square and they ordered, guess what, just wine. That's a clear discrimination right there and unfriendly behaviour to me and my lovely woman that we went out to have a good time and we took it personal of course. The waitress came and we ordered two glasses of wine and after she heard our order we saw a disapointment in her eyes, she made us feel unwelcome, she stopped smilling and asked if we wanted to order someting extra. We found this a little awkward and unfriendly. At last my glass of wine came but it was 2/3 empty. At the end the waitress asked if we wanted to tip her, that was another strange behaviour because we never been asked if we tip or not in Greece especially for such cold and bad service. Also as per my opinion, prices are expensive for a country like Greece and for this island but this is only my opinion, right? Maybe you could upload you menu so everyone could have his own opinion.
