We took a taxi into Argostoli for a wander round. Chose this place because it looked comfortable, had shade and had a slightly trendy vibe. We took a seat, but despite there being only 22 occupied tables (I had time to count them) we were sat a considerable time, consciously ignored by the two waitresses. They were not even close to half their capacity during the day, and the could not or did not want to care.
We went to another table to get a menu and physically asked one of the passing waitresses of we could get two beers - which she acknowledged. However time went by and I could see the bar staff were not preparing any drinks and therefore no order had been put in. Eventually the other waitress did come over and ask if we wanted to order something. We got two Mythos as they didn't have my usual Alfa beer. No smile, no please, no thank you. I started to wonder if this was a Greek version of Karens Diner. Based off this and the time it took, I decided we wouldn't order anything else. I had time to look over the Google reviews and found plenty of similar experiences.
I think the mindset is that tourists are not in any particular hurry, but conversely, we don't live here and do want to fill the short time seeing and doing what we want, not sitting about wasting time in establishments that don't particularly seem keen on your custom. Really not what am used to when visiting the Greek islands, and I've been to many. That said, if you want a seat comfortable in the shade, with a breeze and some ambient music, this is your place. You'll be good for at least 45 minutes before you'll have to order something. So looking on the positive side, this place is a great free shady spot to people watch the main square, a lot more comfortable than the public seating...
Read moreTried this trendy looking cafe mid-morning/mid-week, as it was right on the market square and looked about a fifth full with tourists and locals. Even though we were three to four tables from the bar, it took ages for the waitress to come to the table to provide menus and then come back to take the order (catering/looking after all the locals first). Waitress was grumpy and did not give the impression she wanted to be there. We are never really in any rush, but it took about 15 minutes at least to get drinks (all ok and iced coffees were good), then another 15-20 minutes for chocolate covered pancakes for the boys to arrive - which apparently ok. We recommend walking further into town/along the harbour for better...
Read moreReally poor. Ordered 3 Caesar salads and a club sandwich, plus 4 drinks. Took 30 mins to order, another 30 mins to get drinks then a further 45 mins to get 2 of the salads which was mainly lettuce, hardly any chicken (very overpriced for what it was).waited a bit more and the further 2 meals never showed up. Chased up twice and still never came. Meanwhile we’d finished the 2 meals that had come so just decided to leave with 2 of our family (including a child) having had nothing to eat. They didn’t seem happy we wanted to price for the 2 meals we hadn’t received taken off the bill but the idea of going out for lunch was to eat together. Really poor food, poor service,...
