Let me be the next to contribute to this amazing restaurant’s reviews! I have been in Greece just about a month now, so I wanted something other than Greek food this particular evening. Let’s just say, I wasn’t disappointed!
First things first, if you are the type of diner who expects a fancy table cloth and bottle service and can’t eat at a mom and pop quaint place, this ain’t for you. Let’s not forget that some of the best restaurants in the world (even those with Michelin stars!) are sometimes smaller establishments, some don’t even have seats while others are literal shacks or street vendor carts. That doesn’t say anything about the food though, so keep that in mind!
Now that that’s out of the way- the review!
The food is spectacular! I had the vegan platter (which two could easily share, but I was by myself) and it was simply delectable. The owner pays lots of attention to his guests and made sure I knew exactly how to eat it, and what flavors went well together. The food does take a second, but that’s because he’s doing the job of host, chef, server, and busser, so give the man a break, will ya? I couldn’t eat all of it (even though I wanted to so bad), but the owner packaged it up for me and I took it home to enjoy later! He also has lots of different drink options including hot drinks, soft drinks, and a full bar. The decor of the place is so fun and the music helps set the vibe. You can tell he’s super invested in the restaurant since the place is spotless and the attention to detail is clear.
If you’re in Athens and find yourself wanting something other than Greek food, come here! It won’t disappoint and you’ll leave full (and excited you tried Ethiopian food in Greece!
P.S. I can just hear the reviews about the menu not having prices- sure, it may not be the norm, but it certainly isn’t unheard of. Lots of places around the world, especially Asia, operate on similar principles (think street vendors, markets, etc.). Plus, a lot of the stores in the Acropolis area that cater to tourists are the same way, and you can always ask before...
Read moreI have traveled a lot and have eaten different nationalities of food so with this said it’s not my first time eating Ethiopian cuisine. The area and the restaurant itself is nothing special. But don’t be repulsed by that because their food make up for it! Its traditional, tasteful, quality of food is good and clean made with love. There’s meat and vegan option The portions are very generous. A plate for 2 can also be for 4 people It just depends on how much you eat. The people who own/work there are polite and helpful. Price wise is decent. The only downside is it takes a while to order but it’s understandable since it’s only one person taking order and serving. Also the food takes a while to be prepared but that also is understandable since it’s a small restaurant (approximately with 10 tables) ran exclusively by its owners. So with that in mind be prepared but the wait is worth. In Africa and Asia is common to eat with their hands so before dismissing that option give it a try. You might enjoy the food even more. I strongly recommend this restaurant for locals and tourists. I will definitely eat there again. As for the area it’s not as bad as some might say. It’s ok. It shouldn’t be an issue. Their food is worth...
Read moreIt has been a while since we had been highly recommended this place for its delicious food and friendly service, and today we got the opportunity to visit. The recommendation was in its place. The owner and his wife run the place on their own, and, therefore, the relationship with their customers is casual and warm. The menu is short and over simple, but the owner would explain to you the few available dishes, which they prepare on the spot. You even get to choose how little or over spicy you want your dishe to be. We took the red spicy veal (I asked for it to be a little extra spicy to suit my tastebuds) and the vegan meal, each served on a spongy Ethiopian bread and a succulent lettuce and tomato salad. The food was flavorful and aromatic with the eastern spices and scents, and the meat was tender and lean. For better appreciation, one is expected to eat with the hands by collecting the food with the bread. If you like to explore exotic food, far from the traditional, then the Ethiopian Food Kiyyaa is highly...
