Nestled in the charming Koukaki neighborhood, Grandpa's Trattoria had my taste buds reminiscing about the pizza perfection I experienced at Basilico, the legendary Agios Nikolaos, Crete gem. While I wouldn't crown it the undisputed champion just yet, Grandpa came darn close. The star of the show was undoubtedly the pizza. We dove into two delights: a creamy, pungent Gorgonzola and a classic Pepperoni. Both arrived with a perfectly thin crust, just the right amount of charring, and an abundance of fresh, high-quality toppings. The Gorgonzola's richness was beautifully balanced, while the Pepperoni offered a satisfyingly savory punch. Each bite was a symphony of textures and flavors, transporting me to pizza nirvana. However, the carbonara pasta fell a bit short of the pizza's glory. While the pasta itself was cooked al dente, the sauce lacked the creamy richness and umami depth I crave in a good carbonara. It felt like it was missing that je ne sais quoi that would have elevated it to truly memorable. Despite the pasta misstep, Grandpa's pizza more than redeemed itself. The warm, inviting atmosphere, friendly service, and, of course, the phenomenal pizza make it a must-visit for any pizza lover in Koukaki. Just save room for a slice (or two!) – you...
Read moreThis is the worst place we've eaten during our 2 week stay in Greece. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of our main dishes, but they were alright and something to fill our stomachs.
Drinks were ok, but they get them from the bar across the street. The margatita was alright, but the strawberry daiquiri was the worst drink any of us have ever tasted. We left it unfinished.
What prompted me to leave a review was the tiramisu. We ordered tiramisu and apple crumble for dessert, and the tiramisu was awful. It was extremely dry and unflavorful, and the entire thing was covered in bland mascarpone. The apple crumble was alright, but nothing special. I decided to take pictures last minute, so I apologize for the half-eaten food.
TL;DR: mediocre, borderline inedible food/drinks. Eat...
Read moreA beautiful little trattoria in one of the must-visit neighbourhoods in Athens. We ordered a pizza with pancetta and caramelised onions as well a pepperoni pizza. Let me tell you that they were both exquisitely delicious! We accompanied with a bottle of a nice Chianti which the waitress recommended and it was a scrumptious one which paired nicely with our order. I will say that it is value for money as the prices (approx €13 per pizza and €23 for the bottle of wine) are just right both in terms of size of the dishes but primarily in terms of quality and flavour! The service was polite, friendly and knowledgeable of their product. Highly recommend if you find yourself in the area or even go there on purpose to eat the...
