This is basically an old apartment building above a cafe with the same name that has been turned into accommodation. In other words, it has a lot of character and is not your run-of-the-mill faceless hotel kind of place. It even has a bit of hostel vibe, (even though it is far nicer than a hostel). The rooms are super cute and individually decorated, with quirky woven pictures and vintage or vintage-alike furnishings. But maybe that isn't surprising considering Neratzia Rooms is in one of the city's more hip, gentrified neighbourhoods. ||Beds are comfortable, everything is clean, neighbourhood is safe (we walked around at night also). ||There are great restaurants, cafes and bars all around here as well as interesting boutiques interspersed with the kinds of stores - groceries, fruit shops, old Greek-man cafes - that have been here all along. It's a real neighbourhood, not a tourist attraction and there's a lovely vibe. ||We didn't really have much contact with anyone there except the cafe staff, who let you in and who are super friendly and helpful. ||Breakfast at the cafe was such a highlight for us! We spent 3 days here and tried a different "Greek" breakfast every day. The sour trachanas were incredible as were the Greek pancakes and I think I'd actually come back to Athens just to have another round here. Yum!! Even if you don't stay here, pop by for breakfast...the coffee is also decent as are the Bloody Marys! ||The rooms are about 8 minutes easy walk from the closest metro, the contemporary art museum is also nearby (and worth a visit). It is also a very pleasant 20 minutes-or-so walk in the sunshine to the tourist center of town and all the usual attractions. ||The only thing to consider might be mobility - no elevator and most of the rooms seem to be upstairs. ||If a more casual, characterful stay in a cool neighbourhood is what you are after, with loads of absolutely delicious food,...
Read moreCannot recommend staying here enough. STAFF: Absolutely lovely and very helpful. INTERIOR ROOMS: Very clean and modern rooms with high ceilings, lovely windows, air conditioning, spacious bathrooms and enough room to move around. BREAKFAST INCLUDED: Excellent breakfast menu and they can make you an omelette or bacon and eggs if you're gluten free or muesli without the yoghurt if you're vegan. They also have an amazing array of normal pancake options. Included with accommodation and served up super quickly. The restaurant decor downstairs is absolutely stunning, if you like yourself an insta moment, there are many possibilities here. They also offer incredible brunch, lunch and dinner options and the bar is very popular, however we didn't hear any noise late at night from our room even though this place is very popular among the locals and tourists alike. OVERALL: Highly recommend and would stay here again. It's also super affordable! *Only aside, there's no lift, so it's stairs only...
Read moreWe stayed upstairs in a balcony room (room A2). We picked it for the location - good walking distance to the Acropolis and the metro station where we picked up a rental car the next day. We also walked to the Lycabettus Hill Funicular which took about 45 minutes. Yannis was a great communicator in Whatsapp and arranged taxis for us to and from the airport. The room was very nice. Updated bathroom with a roomy shower and great water pressure. The bed was comfortable. It was a little loud due to the restaurant downstairs and the city traffic, but they thoughtfully provided ear plugs. We would stay there again. We were only able to have the breakfast 1 of 3 mornings because we had to leave before 8am one morning, and didn't budget enough time for a "sit down and order from the menu" breakfast the other morning, but the one we did have...
