I generally won't write a bad review if I have a bad experience because I have a rare food allergy and understand the challenge that can present for a restaurant. Here, I was informed what I could eat after informing them of the allergy. I ordered one of those dishes. My wife was served. No fewer than 3 of the 12 or so people working there walked by my table some with what appeared to be the same dish, all seeing that I had not eaten. Everyone in the restaurant at some point while we were there was congregating and talking within 10 feet of our table, sometimes saying something and then looking over but never approaching us. I don't speak Greek and didn't want to be rude so I didn't get up and repeatedly ask over the 45 MINUTES my food didn't come. I finally gave up and went to pay for the full meal. One man told the cashier to just charge me 10 Euros, so I paid it. This is what a good restaurant would do - comp my wife's food and just charge us for the beers as a nice gesture for ruining our attempt to have a nice local dinner together. We should have just gone to one of the tourist places. After paying and leaving, we were waiting down the block for an Uber and THREE separate employees ran down the block purportedly to apologize but then asking us to pay for my wife's meal, which I did. It occurred to me later there is no way they all didn't know I hadn't eaten. The two servers we spoke with looked at our table numerous times but didn't approach us for 45 minutes after serving my wife. The only logical explanation is they didn't want to risk being wrong about what my allergy would allow for and just decided not to serve me or say anything. Huge disappointment - I felt very insulted and by the time we got anywhere else with restaurants, all that was open were Gelato stands. We'll be back to Athens but not to...
Read moreI've visited "Giatrós tis Peínas" in Neos Kosmos some times, and unfortunately the quality of the food doesn't quite live up to expectations.
I usually go for the pork kontosouvli, but most of the times, it's extremely fatty and the meat tends to be tough and chewy. On rare occasions, you'll get a piece that's decent—less fat, better texture—but that's the exception rather than the rule.
As for the skewers (both pork and chicken), they’re slightly above average, but nothing memorable. The flavor is okay, but there's nothing that really stands out or makes me want to come back for them specifically.
One thing worth noting, though, is that the staff are always polite and professional, which I appreciate.
All in all, while the service is solid and the place has potential, the food quality just isn't consistent enough to justify coming back regularly. If they improved the meat quality especially on the kontosouvli, it could make a big...
Read moreI was impressed by the multi spit charcoal oven and the meat taken from there looked juicy and tempting. This was outside the store so I made it a point to go back there for my dinner.Unfortunately the meat is not taken from spit to fill an order. It is held and portioned as orders come in. My serve of chicken and chips were less than ordinary. The chips were soft and appeared to have shrunk whilst being stored waiting to be ordered. Greek salad was fresh and was the star of the meal. Not sure if I was lucky or they make the salad fresh for all orders. I said nothing to the waiters but then was disappointed even more when I got charged a 5% loading for using a foreign Visa credit card. I have been in Europe for 30 days including Athens for 4. This is the first in at least 100 transactions where I have been charged for...
