Το Καπηλειό — Restaurant in Athens

We have found this place by accident, looking for something to eat late at night. We have stayed at ibis and ended up eating here every day.

Look for an entrance in a yellowish building.

Food is unbelievably fresh. We live in Poland, and have never tasted such fresh vegetables, crunchy bread and tasty chicken. Cheaper than eating out in Plaka. Three of us ate every day, with a meal for each of us, a salad and a litre of cold wine cost us around €50 total.

We send absolute love to the people working here, the lovely Ukrainian lady speaks Ukrainian, Russian and Greek. If you are a Slav you'll manage to communicate as we did. If you don't just use a translator.

Το Καπηλειό was the ideal spot to wrap up our trip, giving us a final taste of Greece’s authentic flavors in a cozy, relaxed atmosphere. The grilled fish was fresh and perfectly seasoned, and the chicken kebab was tender with just the right amount of spice. We savored every bite of the grilled vegetables, which brought out the flavors of local produce, and the fried courgettes were a crispy, delicious treat.

Not easy to describe this hidden jewel: if you are looking for a typical classical restaurant, with traditional Greek food and genuine, honest service, then come here. It is not easy to spot from the road, as the restaurant is missing any sign. Tip: just look for street sign 30. Inside, everything is like 40 years back and, if you accept that the owner speak a basic English, I think you can enjoy one of your best meals in Athens.
