During the very first day of the Crete vacation we were looking for a special place to celebrate. We decided on the safe pick of the highest rated restaurant around. To say that the placed cleared the high-raised bar easily would be an understatement. The experience was great from the very start. We were greeted by a welcoming and cheerful waiter who invited us to a table. The menu is composed of standards as well as local specials. We selected a starter, two main dishes and some refreshments. It's worth to point out that before we got to order we were already graced with some delicious, warm bread and dips. The experience started on the high note and never dropped the tune. Every meal brought to our table was delicious and every interaction with the staff made us feel welcome and taken care of. Care and passion on display there makes the restaurant a place a hungry tourist can't miss. I couldn't imagine a better experience. The only downside is that I am afraid that no other restaurant around will compare. TLDR; Amazing food with fantastic service that will exceed your expectations. Go eat there, you won't be...
Read moreOur family (party of 7) loved the home-cooked food, the sturdy tables and the traditional atmosphere. This was our final dinner on Crete after 5 days of trying restaurants on the North and South side of the island. Although we received at least one great dish in every restaurant we tried (we ate at 7 different places on the island), Mama Lukia’s Taverna was our favorite. We asked for the specialties and the Cretan dishes; Mama Lukia did not disappoint! The Papa served us the best Moussaka on the island as well as the best balsamic dressing/glaze on our salads, an amazing “drunken pork” dish, roasted spiced fall-off-the-bone pork leg, roasted feta in a unique sauce, potatoes in a creamy sauce, beef in a Cretan tomatoes sauce and perfectly grilled halloumi. Even the kids (read: picky eaters), at their fill. The local grapes!!!! and Greek fritters with chocolate sauce were amazing. A local recommended this place on the first day but we kept missing the open hours; we are so...
Read moreLike a lot of people visiting the area this Cretan home cooking restaurant was highly recommended to me. And I can see why. You are greeted with the warmest of Cretan welcomes and seated in the nicely decorated terrace. The service is very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The menu is generous without being too much and vegetarians are well catered for. The food arrives in decent time and has to be tasted to be believed. Home made chips dusted in paprika and oregano are impossible to stop eating as is the freshly baked bread and dips. We followed with a mixed grill for me & the boy and a veggie stew for her. Both choices were a dream. A huge platter of grilled lamb, chicken and pork skewers with more of the chips and a light and tangy tatziki. Her veg stew was pronounced 'heavenly' and more bread was called for to mop the sauce up. Along with some lovely local beer and a complimentary desert, this was a fantastic 1st family meal for...
