Istro Municipal Beach — Attraction in Region of Crete

Lovely Cove. Water is very warm and clear. Parking is on the road. The beach is not very wide and stoney in places, but that does mean you have a clear view of the sea :) Easy to get in and out of the water... we were at the eastern end of the beach which is only a 3-4m wide and is accessed by a long set of steps. Limited sunbeds so would get there early. There are comments in other reviews about rubbish/plastics in the water to which I agree there is some but not quite as bad as they are saying... it has collected in the more sheltered coves but I would let them put you off. There is a shower and a drinks seller that sells "Very Kold Drinks" which are not too expensive (2 fuze iced teas, pi k grapefruit and large Mythos - €15). We would return but is was...

Listed as one of the good beaches on the east of Crete for no good reason. Do not believe every "Best of ..." lists on the internet, some of them are prepared lies to attract tourists and get their money. We were disappointed when we parked the car on street above late afternoon, because parking down there was narrow, difficult and the whole beach is occupied by expensive umbrellas. It was crowded even in the late afternoon due to people who paid dearly for umbrellas and wanted to stay longer than usual. The descent to the beach is steep. There is a cafeteria above and a shower in the middle of the beach. The water looks nothing like special at all, a bit murky and just some waves. This beach is nice, but ... the beautiful turquoise water with sandy bottom of right-enough sloping is very nice. The beach is accessible only by a very narrow staircase of 183 steps, with broken railings and no shade. Its very demanding for anyone other than sporty people, to climb it twice a day. At the beach, when it's a bit more windy, waves take all the sand from the beach and that beach is just pebbles. Not very comfortable and very hard to walk on. Also, when its windy, there is a lot of trash in the water. Swimming between plastic bags is just gross. The sun beds, 10€ for set, are not in the good shape, some of them are actually painful to lay on, and they are very soon taken. You need to secure your set around 9:30, otherwise you don't get...
