Menios Taverna — Restaurant in Municipality of Agios Nikolaos

Ate here twice in the week. The waiters were all very welcoming and did everything quickly and efficiently. The stuffed vine leaves are beautiful, lovely flavour and a big portion. We both had the stifado on our second visit as I had also had it on my first visit. A lovely big portion of melt in the mouth beef, perfectly spiced and seasoned with just chips (you don't need anything else), gorgeous. To finish my wife ordered the Greek orange cake with ice cream, again a huge portion and I was so pleased he brought two spoons as it was absolutely stunning. Great Cretan Hospitality - a must if visiting Sissi!

This taverna was recommended by a couple of locals so we gave it a go and never really left! The sign says it is a cafe, but don't let this mislead you. It is away from the hustle and bustle of the harbour and the simple traditional ambience is only improved by the friendly "dream team" who do everything they can to help you enjoy your evening. We ate at Menios Taverna 3 times during our week here, wish we would have discovered it earlier! The service is fantastic from Nikos and his son. The food is outstanding! The Menios salad is great, so fresh and delicious, the souvlaki, the moussaka, the lamb in the oven and chicken with mustard sauce and mashed potatoes were all excellent!
