Taverna "The Traditional" — Restaurant in Municipality of Agios Nikolaos

During my recent visit to Sisi, Greece, I stumbled upon a truly exceptional taverna that I can confidently say is the best in the area. This family-run establishment is the epitome of what you would hope to find in a traditional Greek taverna: warm, welcoming, and serving up some of the most delicious food I've ever tasted. The menu is a treasure trove of Cretan specialties, each dish more mouthwatering than the last. From the moment I took my first bite of the freshly baked bread dipped in locally-produced olive oil, I knew I was in for a treat. The highlight for me was the grilled octopus, which was tender, smoky, and bursting with flavor. Everything is prepared with the freshest ingredients, sourced from the surrounding region, and you can taste the love and care that goes into every dish. What sets this taverna apart, beyond the amazing food, is the service. The family who owns and operates the taverna treat every guest as if they were welcoming them into their home. They are attentive without being intrusive, always ready with a smile and a recommendation for the perfect wine pairing or dessert. You can feel the pride they take in their heritage and in providing an unforgettable experience for each and every visitor. Dining here isn’t just about the food; it’s about experiencing the heart and soul of Crete. The ambiance is cozy and authentically Greek, with traditional music playing softly in the background and tables set with simple, rustic decor. It’s the perfect spot to relax, take in the beautiful surroundings, and enjoy a meal that feels like a celebration of everything that makes Crete so special. We visited the restaurant and unfortunately were quite disappointed.

First of all, the shrimp were rubbery and overcooked. Our friends ordered a seafood platter for two and a pasta with mussels — and in both dishes, half of the mussels were closed, which is unacceptable. We also noticed that the menu stated the platter included lobster, but in reality, it was langoustine, which felt misleading.

We had to wait over an hour for the food, although drinks were served quickly. Overall, the experience wasn’t great.

Paradosiako Restaurant Sisi is far the best restaurant I have been to in Crete. The food is fresh and delicious and yummilicious. Tasted everything in their menu. We loved their seafoods. The staff are welcoming, friendly and always on time for their services. Entertainment every Monday. After the mains they offer in-house dessert of fruits and cake.
