The style of the restaurant - white and turquoise, clean and friendly; …. The bay, the sea and the rocks opposite, hung over it. The knowledge that Africa is opposite makes it even more magical.
Feel …. …. Fast service, one of the waiters knows many words in Bulgarian, which, unlike Halkidiki, is not a common occurrence in Crete.
Hear …. …. The surf of the waves. On the south side of the island the sea is rougher and there are a lot of waves. ...........
Smell .... …. Oregano in the Greek salad, parsley in the shrimp saganaki, smoky grilled chicken bon fillets.
Taste .... …. Pleasant and ethereal starter dip of thick yogurt; … Saganaki shrimps are not like the ones you are used to, there is not so much sauce, there are a lot of vegetables and onions - it is delicious, there is no need to dip too much bread and suffer from a guilty carb conscience. …. "Grandma's fish" is prepared in parchment with vegetables in the oven. It's delicious, but I wanted an idea to be more like home cooking, instead of broccoli and cauliflower, with typical local vegetables such as green beans and more local spices; …. Nice chicken and also shrimp paste; …. Thyrocafteri, a little different, with more vegetables, a delicious Greek salad and wonderful stuffed vine leaves, which are typical for the Greek cuisine. Read moreUsually I avoid eating in highly touristic places but my friends wanted something for a change after a number of great beach taverns. Absolute disappointment! The staff tries to be friendly and fun, but they are so overloaded that don't manage to serve in time. We had to wait at least 20 min before they bring us starters and another 20 min after we finished with the starters and before the main course. We asked three times to bring us olive oil and never got it. They brought white wine instead of the red.
The food is 50/50. Some dishes were really good, like grilled fish and saganaki cheese in the oven. Other were not edible like zucchini balls (dry and too much salt). A big surprise was kleftiko, which is supposed to be cooked with veggies for several hours, wrapped in paper without contact with the air. In fact it should be cooked in an earth oven but the method above is fully acceptable. Instead I got a simple lamb with potatoes and veggies in the oven, covered with cheese. Totally different experiece (the potatoes were also a bit undercooked). The waiter said it was their "special recipe" for kleftiko, oh well.
Tiny slices of a watermelon as a compliment (considering thr price, they could have offered some baklavas or ravani as well). After we politely mentioned that we were not 100% happy with the meal, no apology was expressed by the waiters, not even by the manager that was taking...
Read moreWe ate here tonight and we were made so welcome by the family that ran the restaurant. Elaina was so engaging and delightful, the Chef came out to make sure how my daughter wanted her steak cooked to make sure the kitchen got it right so our experience was an enjoyable evening. The food was great, if anyone is thinking of going, no need to worry, I can safely say that the atmosphere was great, what a lovely spot next to the beach, all of the staff were helpful, very attentive without being in your face. Only here for a week but will be returning this week to discover other lovely items on the menu. Great value, great food, great service, don’t think twice to try here, go and enjoy yourself, you will be pleased you visited, we were, thank you, best wishes David, Mandy & Abi...
