This is not your average tavern. The food here is absolutely delicious and we would come to eat here everyday if we could.
What we had: for appetizers, we had the 2 saganaki's: shrimp and eggplant; they both had the same sauce, only the main ingredient was different... and it was the best saganaki I ate in a long time! Besides the feta cheese, the tomato sauce also had many cooked vegetables, such as peppers and onion... the taste was just divine! It was also a little spicy, so keep that in mind; the main dishes: the mussels in wine sauce were cooked just right and you could taste the wine from the sauce, very delicious dish; their Sirocco salad is absolutely amazing, you have to try it if you're craving for a salad; it has so many ingredients, including figues; the fish of the day was cooked just perfect, not dry at all and very tasty... that's because they grill it on a gas oven, not wood... they have perfect control of the temperature and the result is exactly what it should be; they also brought a special sauce, which was really good and went well with the fish; I believe the fish was the red snapper, although they called it the white bream; The waiter politely asked if we prefer for him to open up the fish or if we want to do it ourselves. We accepted him to do it and he did a good job in removing most of the bones.
At the end, they brought us a complementary fruit plate and some raki.
We also tried Brink's, their local Rethymno beer, one blonde and one dark beer. They were actually very good, both me and my girlfriend enjoyed it. I'm not very good at describing beers but they had a light and enjoyable aromatic taste, which we found very interesting. We liked the dark beer a...
Read moreExcellent service! Exquisite food! The management clearly thought about everything when they invested in the nice interior, which you have the opportunity to admire during the 10 minutes it takes for someone to notice you and the 20-30 minutes before someone takes your order. They also support a healthy lifestyle, so don’t bother asking for an ashtray as you’ll finish your pack before they bring it. We have ordered fresh fish and made the huge mistake of asking for lemon, which should’ve been on the plate anyway to save the poor tasteless dorada. We have admired the commitment of the waiter who went all the way to Amalfi to pick up fresh lemons, however I would have appreciated it more if I could have them before finishing my meal. The delicious 4 tiny olives we got as a starter, which of course made it on the bill, were such a lovely surprise. I definitely appreciate low budget “tourist tavernas” now, as I got to experience pretentious ignorance in this lovely restaurant. Surprisingly enough, even the part where you pay for the poor food takes forever, another 10 minutes of admiring the walls before you receive the bill, while the same committed waiter probably gets out the old typewriter and woes you with his skills. Luckily enough we didn’t get charged for using the chairs and table this time. Totally recommend if you don’t have...
Read moreWorst experience in Plakias. They welcome you in the restaurant, they wont bring menus unless you ask them to then waited like 15 mins for them to take our order. They bring water and some garbage starter to the table (both are payed, dont worry), the starter contains of 3 carbonized pieces of bread, some tasteless sauce and 4 olives (YES, FOUR). Myself ordered “fresh” fish, it was tasteless and I asked for some lemon. I was able to watch the waiter go around, bring stuff, welcome other clients, also just staying but bringing the lemon. After I finished eating the garbage food they’re serving, he brought the lemon (probably 10 more minutes later) and said “a bit late?”, no excuse no nothing, just some sarcastic laugh. Hope this junk restaurant gets closed, the only good thing here is the view, nothing else. Unfortunately, I read the reviews a little too late, cant honestly understand how this garbage restaurant has these good reviews. Waiting for the “professional” response...
