Καφενείο Καράι — Restaurant in Municipality of Astypalaia

Walking around Chora, we came across this lovely restaurant with beautiful views of the sea from their courtyard seating area. It was a very windy day, so we didn’t stay too long.

We ordered food, and it came relatively quickly. The octopus took slightly longer to cook, as we were told by the waitress, but we were willing to wait.

We ordered their well-known mini kebabs, marinated anchovies, fried zucchini sticks, grilled octopus, and a Greek salad.

The food was great, however, one thing that was a bit of a letdown was the octopus. It was overcooked on the grill, and as a result, it was a bit rubbery and charred.

Really tasty food, reasonable priced, smiley people. Portions are good. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the chance to try swordfish (due to windy weather it’s difficult to fish it) but we tried fava, zuchinni sticks, squid, meatballs and in the end they treated us halvah. Everything was great. The staff was really friendly and smiley. Amazing view.
