I think it was the second day of my stay, I was exploring the town of Benitses and looking at the various menus exposed outside the main square. I stopped by Loris Traditional Taverna and was greeted by Theo, the restaurant owner, who smiled and welcomed me to Benitses. We talked a bit and he gave me his restaurant card, which I gladly accepted. I was always greeted with a smile as I strolled around, and one day, as it was already past noon, I decided to stop there for lunch. I had already set my mind on ordering a hearty greek dish and being a lover of stew and onions, I was really looking forward to taste the Stifado. As a side dish, I asked if it was possible to have a salad rather than potatoes or rice, in order to be able to reserve space for dessert as well. As soon as it was served, my mouth was already watering. The dish exuded a delicious smell of spices, not to mention the sauce that surrounded the meat and onions. The portion was generous, the meat melted in your mouth with every bite, I didn't even need a knife and the onions were so sweet that I would have eaten more. I was so delighted with the dish that I took my time enjoying it in the sunshine. While I was finishing my plate, I smiled at Theo and asked him for the recipe and he kindly explained the whole process to me. Luckily I did have some room left for dessert, so I ordered two scoops of gelato, vanilla and pistachio each. It was a lunch that I enjoyed to the last bite. The service was fast and always friendly. A very good price/quality ratio too. Benitses makes you feel part of their community, I even had a pleasant chat with Theo a few hours before my departure. I wish him all the best and hope to...
Read moreThe staff there were lovely and the food was spectacular.
We had our first and last meal and they were proper traditional Greek cuisine dishes. The prices weren’t too expensive: I’d even say it’s a fair price. Overall everywhere we eat did incredible food, but this restaurant stood out.
To be honest with our first day in Greece we had a really late arrival and due to the coronavirus pandemic all of the shops and restaurants had to close by midnight and it was roughly 11:30-11:45 in the afternoon we arrived. When we had a look around, no other restaurants apart from this one let us eat. For all of the staff, their service was incredible, particularly this waiter Theo. He pulled a few strings and let us eat for the first meal and he was particularly polite and welcoming helping us with our orders. Thank you for...
Read moreSolid food - service sometimes very unfriendly. We had a little boy with us who has gluten celiac disease. We were assured that there were gluten-free fries and souvlaki, but when the food was served there was still pita on the plate, which was already touching both the meat and the fries. When we kindly asked them to please bring a new piece of meat, the pita pieces were simply taken off the plate and the plate was brought out again. When we wanted to leave, we noticed a young couple at a neighboring table being "sent away" with the words that the kitchen was closed, but 2 minutes later an older couple and a family were accepted and served without any problems.
The food is okay overall, there are much better Greek restaurants in Benitses...
