Paxinos is my favourite taverna on Corfu. I had numerous enjoyable meals during my recent return to Corfu.
The place is delightful, the food is wonderful, the service is friendly and personal and the atmosphere has that typical Greek charm that is what Greek hospitality is famous for. The restaurant is about 100 metres up a side road from the more common known and usual tourist restaurants on the front as you enter Benitses from Corfu town. We tried numerous things on the menu, from the Paxinos Special Salad, the numerous meze dishes, an amazing stefado and lamb Kleftiko. Had we had the time to go again I am sure we would continue to work our way through the menu as we enjoyed it so much. There are no words to describe the deserts especially the cheese cake and orange halva. Many of the other tavernas in town close out of season but Paxinos is open all year and locals from all over the island come here in the winter which says more about it than all the reviews in the world.

Read moreDEUTSCH Unseren Besuch im Paxinós könnte man ohne Weiteres als sehr spontan bezeichnen, denn wir waren auf der Suche nach einem Restaurant, welches einen Grill sein Eigen nennt.
Der Empfang war sehr freundlich und die Corona-Regeln werden hier auch erst genommen. Der Gastraum ist hell und teilt sich in zwei Bereiche auf. Wir wurden platziert und sogleich konnten wir unsere Bestellung aufgeben. Die Chefin ist ausgesprochen sympathisch und spricht ein besseres Englisch, als wir es von uns behaupten können.
Als kalte Vorspeise hatten wir Oktopus in Öl und Essig – dieser war ausgezeichnet – und eine Portion Kalamata Oliven. Von meiner Warte aus die zweitbesten, die ich je probieren durfte – vielen Dank dafür! Natürlich haben wir auch einen griechischen Salat mit Schafskäse dazu genommen, ebenfalls sehr lecker.
Der Hauptgang bestand aus einem Souvlaki, einer Hand voll Lamm-Koteletts und ein paar Gambas vom Grill. Alles war ausgezeichnet, appetitlich und im Stil der klassischen Taverne bodenständig angerichtet. Im Paxinós achtet man ganz besonders auf Nachhaltigkeit und serviert daher überwiegend Bio aus eigenem Anbau.
Besonders faszinierend fanden wir die gedämpfte grüne Zucchini, sehr lecker – das kannten wir so vorher noch nicht.
Ich kann das Paxinós empfehlen, hier schmeckt man das mit Liebe gekocht wird. Gerne hätte ich fünf Sterne vergeben, aber was die Gerichte vom Grill angeht brauche ich persönlich deutlich mehr „Flamme“.

ENGLISH Our visit to Paxinós could easily be described as very spontaneous, because we were looking for a restaurant that had a grill.
The reception was very friendly and the Corona rules are taken seriously here. The dining room is bright and divided into two areas. We were seated and could immediately place our order. The chef is very friendly and speaks better English than we can claim.
For a cold starter we had octopus in oil and vinegar - which was excellent - and a portion of Kalamata olives. From where I was standing, the second best I've ever had the pleasure of tasting - thank you for that! Of course, we also had a Greek salad with feta cheese with it, also very tasty.
The main course consisted of a souvlaki, a handful of lamb chops and some grilled prawns. Everything was excellent, appetising and served down-to-earth in the style of the classic taverna.
At Paxinós, they pay special attention to sustainability and therefore serve mostly organic food from their own cultivation.
We were particularly intrigued by the steamed green zucchini, very tasty - we had never had it before.
I can recommend Paxinós, here you can taste that they cook with love. I would have liked to give it five stars, but as far as the grilled dishes are concerned, I personally need a lot more "flame".
