Just how I like a restaurant to be, quietly confident in the quality of its food. The location is peaceful, away from the hustle of the city and port yet it still benefits from a glorious view across the sea with large lifting windows to make you feel alfresco whilst indoors. You can hear the lapping of the gentle waves and watch spearfishers diving for their dinner.
The owner and staff were lovely and had the perfect subtle approach of checking just enough, to see if all was well. The dry agers lining the walls are a sure sign of someone who cares about gastronomy. I chose the dry aged tuna steak and was in ecstacies taking plenty of time over every mouthful. My mum had the seafood soup which was such a generous portion and so so delicious, nothing rubbery or overcooked and a broth that told of good time spent reducing and layering.
I'm not usually a dessert person but I decided that a baklava cheesecake was something I should not walk away from, and oh my goodness I am glad I put in for a rare third course (I had Cretan sausage for starters which were also great). This cheesecake has me in stunned silence, and in spite of pre-ordering a box to take the leftovers home in, it wasn't needed. In fact, I went back there on my way home from a meal at the port, the next evening, to get the cheesecake again for take out. Heaven. Thank you for a...
Read moreThe brisket was awesome. the seer on the steak was good. We ordered 3 dishes and one of them was not when we ordered but we decided not to say anything. I then asked for medium steak, and got medium rare. They insisted taking it back to cook longer so I said yes. When i got it back it was still rare. I didn't want to be stubborn so I just kept to myself. When I ordered the steak they told me it was 300 grams. Then they brought it out to show me, saying again, it's 300 grams and i agreed. To my surprise when i received my check the steak was 75 euro. I talked to my partner across the table and asked, "didn't they say it was 300grams? (to be 45 euro) they said yes. Twice, they did. I told my partner they charged me 30 euro more. Then the waiter came over (without me saying anything, listening in on my conversation) that its a 500 gram steak and that's why it was 75. I'm not so upset to be extremely bothered but I really don't appreciate being taken advantage of. I was told it's a 300gram steak, that's what ill be charged. When it truly was 500 grams, 30 euro more expensive piece of meat. I paid my bill and did not cause a scene and even though the brisket was amazing I'll never go back and insist to my peers to which we are all here for years to never bother coming here. My partner, as well who is a Cretan native feels and will express the same to...
Read moreI have been there on my business-Trip as a Single guest. I have been Served by the owner and his wife, as I guess, who both were not that friendly as I would expect for a restaurant of this pricing class. Even if they had free tables close to the window from where you might have a view oder the sea, they gave me a place at the wall, at the end of the restaurant. The food was ok. Even if I had better ones in the old town of Chania. But I had some really delicious mussels as a starter. 5 Stars for them. As the Main course I had some typically crete meat. It was ok, but a little too fatty. The prices are upper class, the service unfotunately was ashaming low! None caring, none asking, if I would like to order a dessert or a drink etc. By the way: Other guests in groups got a Raki offered when paying - Nothing! I nevertheless gave a tip of abou 15%. No thank you. No have a nice evening. Nothing. Maybe it was because I am from Germany or I seemed to be a tourist, even if I was on business trip. I don't know. But that behavior was absolutely low class! I really cannot recommend this place. There are better ones of taste with lower costs around and with a more friendly personal. I would not have needed this experience - and...
