Visited this restaurant tonight on the recommendation of other people in our hotel.
I asked for the sea bass but ONLY if it could be filleted. I was informed by the femaile waitress that this could be done but she did say she could tell I was a ‘city girl’ as she couldn’t believe I didn’t like it as described, which I found rude.
I would have happily ordered lamb if the chef wasn’t competent to fillet of fish.
The fish came with the head and the tail off but it was not filleted. It was also cold. I didn’t eat any of the fish . At not one point did anyone ask if our food was okay. Even when the full plates were removed (my daughters chicken was also cold): and my husband left half his pizza.
We asked for the bill and at that point I said the fish was terrible and were not happy to pay full price for that ONE meal . The staff then accused me of being drunk and suggested because the restaurant was full, my feedback was unbelievable and they suggested we were drunk.
We had one bottle of wine between 3 people.
They accused me of not giving feedback mid meal but it was not asked for
The other two plates of food were mediocre at best and the man who suggested he is the owner is deplorable.
I asked for a filleted fish. They said they could deliver what I requested and instead of holding their hands up, they blamed me on their failures.
It is not hard as a chef to fillet a sea bass. The female waitress lied about what she had said to be and the behaviour of the staff was vile. They obviously get feedback based on location.
Any competent chef can fillet a fish and any decent hospitality staff can comprehend when the customer hasn’t been listened too.

Read moreHad a weird experience at the Olivi restaurant. Two of us dined there based on reviews and because the place is picturesque. My meal (a simple Cretan dish) was good HOWEVER my partner’s seafood mixed grill meal was awful. The octopus, sea bass and mussels were clearly not fresh (the octopus could not even be cut with a knife using reasonable force - it was like rubber) and the rice was undercooked. We brought this to the attention of the waiter who we saw promptly discuss it with the maitre’d (who up until then was friendly and always around). After the waiter conversation, we never saw the maitre’d again. It was so odd and so obvious that we immediately figured this must happen regularly. We paid, left and vowed not to return. I am confused by the high ratings (there are only a few I can see that had a similar experience to ours). This was the first and only negative food experience we had since arriving in Crete. ...
