Year Three (2023) for Nymfi and us. We made it back and we were thrilled. So much that we waited a bit to send in the review so that it will be there with the new season. We made it a point to excaust the Menu and we came close to doing it. What a marvellous experience it was. Almost every evening we would have our dinner at Nymfi, having discussed the choices of the night will sunbathing at Ayia Marina. Tried everything, and we suggest that you do as well. Nymfi we miss you.
This year (2022) we returned to Nymfi. Nymfi had played a vital role in our decision to return to Crete. We made a pact with ourselves this time to exhaust the menu. We didn't make that far but we will next time. Nymfi welcomed us once again. Every dish we tried had a unique concept behind it and that was always explained to us by Grigori, Nymfi's maitre. We learned of the balance between grape fruit, lemon and honey dressing, of how to pick a starter that is truly a "starter" since that is when the voyage starts. Whether you chose the pasta (how complex can a pasta be, right?... wrong!) or the roasted pork, or roasted lamp, or the astonishingly produced salads (Nymfi, try the Nymfi) in all their wild variations (Couscous, try the couscous) or the two versions of the gourmet burger, or the figs with goat cheese, or the mushrooms or, or, or... you will be delighted to have found this gastronomical treasure. Nymfi, oh Nymfi, how much we miss you!
And from our previous visit, in 2021: Cretan dishes with a gourmet touch and an international flair. Service is impeccable and its ambience is memorable. Each dish, and we had several, has its own character. The owners will come by your table and explain how everything is prepared. It is plainly obvious that all ingredients are of the finest quality. A lot of care and knowledge has gone into every menu entry. If you are lucky enough to come across Nymfi by chance do not pass it by. Otherwise search for it. You will...
Read moreTucked away on a peaceful side street, Nymfi offers a hidden oasis just steps from the lively heart of Agia Marina. The location is perfect for a quiet, romantic escape, easily accessible for those staying nearby yet removed enough to feel like a world of its own.
The food here is, in a word, exceptional. From the first bite to the last, every dish was thoughtfully prepared and full of local flavor. The local wine stood out as a particular highlight—rich and vibrant, it complemented the meal beautifully. And don’t even get me started on the lemon tart. It's the kind of dessert that leaves you contemplating whether it’s socially acceptable to order a second one for yourself... And maybe a third for the road?
The service at Nymfi deserves special mention. In a rare display of near clairvoyance, the staff corrected a small mix-up with our wine order before we even noticed, showcasing a level of attention that sets them apart. It’s the kind of place where you feel truly taken care of, not just served.
Prices lean slightly on the higher side compared to other local spots, but with the quality of the meal and the top-notch service, it's worth the extra few euros. Think of it as paying a little more for a lot more ambiance and care. Or as I like to call it, “investing in happiness.”
Nymfi is an absolute must-visit for anyone craving a memorable, romantic...
Read moreIf you are an average tourist and enjoy a touristic place which has a nice garden and playground with a small football field for kids and never mind about the slightly above average prices especially for tourists with "may you want to add a tip" request when the card payment is done then go right ahead and enjoy yourself, this place is for you. Also you may get a considerable waiting time before you can enjoy the starters.
I prefer sword fish, sea bream, octupus etc to 18 euros for salmon which is not a very local fish delivered from norway.
Although the lithuanian waitress was nice i did not like to hear jokes on how i drink my coffee from the local waiter. I do not care how and what other people drink, so shouldnt anyone joke about my choices, specially when the task is to serve drinks not being a comedian.
To get a more "local" feeling one should visit specific areas of Chania (not the harbour) or mountain villages, and maybe some tavernas on the main street or by the sea. I got an excellent sword fish from restaurant called vegera for 12,5 and good octupus for 10 eur + very good sea bream for 14,5eur from restauraunt nisos in platania. But the taste may also depend on the...
