Wow. Seriously good restaurant. We had meatballs and zucchini slices to start. They were stunning. The tempura on the zucchini was sublime. I had the moussaka for a main. Utterly delicious. Perfectly seasoned. Really... perfection. My other half had lamb chops, also super tasty and perfectly cooked. Couldn't fit pudding in unfortunately, so we will be back! If you're new to Greek cuisine, let me just advise that portions are generous. We ate the bread... lovely but filling! The best food we have had on the island in a week of eating out. The atmosphere is lovely, very chilled, very friendly. A couple of cute little cats around, a dog popped in and was gently shooed out. Our waiter was really lovely and spoke good English and we met both of the chefs / owners, who were chatty and very present. Really loved the overall vibe. Read moreDELICIOUS! We've eaten around Crete - Chania, Rethymno, Iraklion, Agios Nikolaos, Sitia and Vai, and Lychnari is the best place we've been to.
The food is sooo good, it's moist, full of flavor. For starters you get WARM bread, which is very rare. Warm, soft inside, crunchy outside. Tzatziki and stuffed Vine leaves go very well with it.
For diner we had several things, my favorite being Lamb Fricassee - it brought back memories of my father cooking at home :) Gyros and calamari were also fantastic, the flavour pours into your entire mouth and you just enjoy the moment.
The owner is great, very nice, very talkative but also clearly the heart of the kitchen. You can see this is his passion. If it was located a little closer to the centre of Kato Guves, Lychnari would be full of people, but because it's a little ways off the beach, there's always peace and quiet and you can enjoy the great food in peace :)
