Desmaria — Restaurant in Municipality of Chersonissos

Have just finished yet another visit to Crete. Whilst we stayed in a different part of the Island, we went every day to Gouves as we know and like the area having stayed there years ago. Every day we made it our business to call at Desmaria after the beach. We met the owners years ago and always were given a warm greeting by them. Eva is a particularly nice lady. She works from sun up to sun down and never seems to tire!!! The place is spotless and she keeps it lovely. Her icecreams are huge and gorgeous. She never fails to pass on a raki or an Ouzo or watermelon or some addition to your drink visit. When she is not working and visitors slack, she loves to sit and talk proudly of her family, her husband and grand children. She loves a joke but I imagine she does not suffer fools gladly. So good we've been here nearly every night of our holiday for cocktails despite being all inclusive at our hotel. This place has the best host Maria who is very hospitable and will have a lovely chat with you, you are served snacks with your drinks, sparklers on cocktails and a shot when you pay the bill which Maria makes every day. This all makes for an amazing atmosphere and personable experience. The music is great and very relaxing unlike some places that are too loud. They also do great shisha which is cheap compared to other bars that offer the same service. All in all this place is a Must when visiting gouves. The two ladies who run here called out to us as we walked by... very friendly. We didn't go in... but we found no where else did this friendly gesture... so we went back the next day and had the best ever Pina Colada and Margarita on the island island! Generous drinks... not too much ice... and a free drink afterwards. Hanging chairs, really clean and colourful surroundings. Looks great at night time too... with lights up the plants... looks so welcoming. Super friendly, chatty and kind hosts. Thank you. We hope to come back a have another drink each before we head home. ...
