We had a lovely time at the hotel club! As others have noted, the location of the hotel might not be ideal for sightseeing, but we visited here to unwind and relax, and the hotel accommodates this very well. So, if you wish to really explore Greece and experience the Greek culture and spirit, I'd recommend looking for something else. But if you're looking for a very relaxing, distraction-free, sunny vacation, this is a nice place to visit! (:
What we enjoyed most were the lovely pools, very friendly staff, overall cleanliness, the bars, and a very nice buffet. If you opt for the all inclusive stay, you can enjoy a lot of different drinks, snacks (including ice cream and slushy) pretty much all day.
There were only two things that kind of bugged me...
First, there isn't really a lot of shade near the pool or at the beach. There are a lot of sun umbrellas, of course, but they offer little protection, especially since they can't be angled! There was only one small canopy area by the main pool that offers shade all/most of the day, but it is, of course, always occupied. According to the rules, you're not supposed to "reserve" the chairs, but this is not enforced. I'm an early bird and always got up around 5:30-6, and by then, all the chairs under the canopy would already be occupied with towels whose owners are nowhere to be seen until hours later. I think it would be nice to either build more canopies or at least enforce the rule better!
The second is the number of paper cups that are being used and wasted in this club! Understandably, glass is forbidden in the area of the pool, but we would often be served drinks in paper cups even when we would say we'd stay at the bar. We also often brought back our used paper cups to be refilled, only to be served new drinks in a new paper cup. Sometimes, our paper cups near our chairs would be taken away when we weren't nearby, when we would have happily reused them. It is really a lot of waste and it is so unnecessary. And it must be rather cost ineffective! I would consider switching to reusable cups, which guests could bring back to be refilled. There must be a better system. It was really heartbreaking to see bins and bins overfilling with paper cups each afternoon. Such a stupid waste.
Nevertheless, the service at the hotel is excellent, it is clean and beutiful and we had a very...
Read moreIt looks very nice and appealing but the closer you get, the more it looks like it's being left to rot. The reception area is fantastic, our room is dated, the air con barely works (even on turbo mode) and we are out of WiFi reach. Not a major issue as I've got a decent data package with my mobile network. There are gaps between the floorboards and the skirting boards and I always seem to end up with dirty feet after a shower, even on days that we hadn't been to the beech. The gym is bad but useable. Half the machines don't work, some of the weight machines literally have snapped cables. It looks NOTHING like the picture on the website. It's in the basement and no Aircon (just a big fan) but there's just enough to get by. The pools aren't that big compared to how many guests there are, the main pool always has ridiculous house music thumping away and only stops for pool-based activities - that's fine. That's what you expect. The other pool has a bar in it, but it's very shallow and again a bit on the small side, for the most part it's ok for sunbathing but its not the most relaxing atmosphere. Still beats the repetitive house music though. The foods good. No complaints there. I've yet to find proper bacon whilst travelling anywhere so I won't mark them down on that. We're in to day 4 of 8 at this point and the selection has been great. Im especially enjoying the pancakes with syrup and the fresh omelettes for breakfast. It's great being literally over the road from a mini-beach which is nice for a walk around and there's enough loungers there, doesn't seem to get overly bust really. Wish I'd brought my snorkel. The beer is ok for all-inclusive, I'm hardly expecting a premium lager but it's crisp and refreshing so it does the job. Especially if you drink enough of it throughout the day. The staff all seem really nice and friendly. They usually all have a smile on their face and are happy to answer any questions you have which helps set a nice atmosphere...
Read moreMyself, my autistic daughter and my mum visited Gouves to have lunch and cocktails at the beach restaurant & upon finishing we paid the bill. Service was extremely slow, at one point I stood up to go to the bar and was told to sit down & wait for the waitress, who came to the table around 20 minutes later. The barman I believe his name was Georgio or Gergius is interested in only the all inclusive guests. ||Paid our bill & asked Gerguis to book us a taxi, to which he contacted the hotel reception. He told me to wait for them to call back. They called back & Gerguis told me that reception had refused to call me a taxi because I was an outsider and they don’t call taxis for outsiders. I was astounded and frankly embarrassed as this was in front of other people. I asked why the hotel had taken my money as an outsider for food and cocktails if this is their view. I was then given a Greek taxi number, I had 1% battery on my phone & my mum isn’t able to use hers abroad due to her contract, & told to call the Greek taxi firm who when I did we both couldn’t understand each other. I then had to go back to the busy bar & ask Gerguis to speak to the operator who told him that he couldn’t understand me so he told me half an hour but as Gerguis had come to the line he will get one there in 5 minutes. ||All the while…I’m thinking to myself my time is wasted in these back and forth walks to the bar, Gerguis can’t be as efficient as he wants to be because he has to keep speaking to me & taking the phone…if reception had just booked a taxi it would have taken less than a minute however, this whole|Process took around 20 AND MADE MY AUTISTIC DAUGHTER GO INTO PANIC AND HAVE AN EPISODE BECAUSE SHE THOUGHT SHE WAS TRAPPED!!!!!!!!! Absolutely disgusting, if the colour of my sk#n was different I highly doubt you would refer to me as an outsider & again if that’s how you feel about outsiders THEN DONT TAKE OUR MONEY FOR FOOD AND DRINK OR ALLOW US...
