We stayed in August 2022. The hotel is generally renovated and well kept, but we wouldn't give it 4*. It is located near the center of Kato Gouves town, and right next to the hotel there are: supermarkets, restaurants, car rentals, the beach (you have to cross a small and not too busy street to get there), and places to watch the sunset (for example a small marina and a small church).
We received a room in the main building, it was clean, rather spacious and sufficiently equipped. The bathroom was very basic, but with clean towels and hot water every day. We had a small but sufficient balcony with a table and two chairs, as well as laundry drying equipment. The room was cleaned (basic cleaning) every day, however the floor seemed to be mopped every 2 or 3 days.
The swimming pool was somewhat small, but sufficient for the amount of guests (the hotel was fully booked during our stay). It was clean and open till 19:00. There were a few sunbeds and umbrellas by the pool (free of charge), as well as some bar tables and chairs, some of them offering a refreshing shade. The wifi (free of charge) in the lobby and in the bar was usually working.
The staff was friendly and polite. They spoke good English and German. They helped us to rent a car (a bit overpriced, though - Fiat Panda for 60e/day) and stored our luggage after the check out and before the transfer.
The hotel restaurant (Taverna Zorbas) had some tables with sea view, and some inside of the building. It was pleasant to sit there during the meals. There was live music every evening. Unfortunately, the food (all inclusive) was a disaster. Every day we had the same meals (especially during breakfast). The food was tasteless, and no Greek cuisine was offered. If it hadn't been for the terrible food, we would have given the hotel much...
Read moreWe were at Kalia Beach last week and I was scared at first because of the reviews, but i was pleasantly surprised! Very pretty complex, everything was clean, housekeeping was every day around noon (they changed towels, throw away trash and sweep the floors!) Rooms were pretty! Air conditioning, television, hair fan and also pretty vanity! Breakfast was from 8am to 10am and there was various of food, yes it was kind of repetitive but it didn’t matter. Lunch was from 1pm to 2:30 pm and it was fine, I mean they changed the food but also it was almost the same every day .. the dinner was from 7pm to 9pm and same as the lunch.. changed a bit but also the same :D i was tired of it by the 4th day but there is many restaurants that serve good food! The location is very good! There are some beaches near the hotel (like 5 min walk) and also some attractions at the beach! 15 minutes walk from hotel is something like center, there are cafes, bars, restaurants and cute shops! 30 minutes walk from hotel is Crete Aquarium and also Dinosauria (dino park). At hotel there are like 7 cats! The black one is very sweet! The orange-black let you pet them but be careful! Black and white with spot on the nose is also very sweet! Back at the “houses” there is tricolora (black, white and orange) and she’s the sweetest! At restaurant there is a siamese cat with the biggest blue eyes that will pierce you trough your soul so you give her some food! :D she’s also sweet! There are some more cats around the center etc but they aren’t let you pet them! I guess that’s all :D overall I think it’s pretty good service for the...
Read moreWe love it here. |The first time we came here was because their sister hotel, Despo, was closed. That was a scary experience because our booking company hadn’t told us in advance!|But we absolutely loved it once we’d checked in. ||Right across the road from the sea, with spectacular sunsets. |The reception sells bottled water for your room, to save you having to carry it all the way from the shop across the road. |The All Inclusive food ranges from basic (fish fingers & chips for the unadventurous) to traditional Greek dishes. There is always plenty of salad, cheese, bread, fruit available at meal times. A reasonable choice of drinks are included with the AI too. ||The staff are always really friendly, helpful and professional, and most speak excellent English. Some appear to be fluent in several languages, as overhead with other guests. The staff remember us from previous visits and always offer a lively warm greeting. ||The rooms we’ve had have always been clean, and cleaned regularly whilst we’ve been there, with clean bedding and towels regularly or if you ask. ||We’ve been to Kalia Beach about 5 times now. We actually tried to book direct with them for this year, but didn’t get a reply to our email, sadly, so we had to book through one of the big booking sites again. But we’re hoping to book for our honeymoon in 2026 whilst we visit this year. ||If you’re looking for hectic schedules with kids activities 24/7 and a 24hr bar, and pizzas/burgers then you probably won’t be appreciating the charm and individuality of this hotel. But it’s just right for us.||From...
