When I booked the Gouves Bay Hotel, it looked quite nice and within my range. I have since discovered that the pictures on the sites are at least 10 years old This review is not a threat, as the hotel seems to say it is, but a factual and honest account of the 18 Hours out of the 10 days we were supposed to be there My Mother and Father has had to move myself and my wife. We are on Honeymoon and this Hotel has completely ruined it. We were in tears in what should be the happiest time of our lives. My room was changed, but it was even worse. I cannot get that first day back...not ever! yes, they moved us, to a room which was even worse. Security is a joke! the door to the patio secured by a nail!! Gouves Bay Hotel is absolutely filthy, smelly and unhygienic. I have attached a few pictures so you can see for yourselves what we faced. Nothing worked, everything was broken, lights, tv, refrigerator, shower... just everything! The Electrics spark, and the rooms are so dull. The Hotel serves Children alcohol our first day we were subjected to abusive drunken children. Is this not illegal? It upset us to such an extent that we went out. We booked for 10 nights , but barely stayed for one. The beds are like prison beds, an inch thick and so hard, you can feel the springs, they squeak. As for the food, this hotel is so filthy, I wouldn't feed the slop to the pigs, the staff were dirty, no gloves, flies, ants and insects everywhere...No thank you! The food looked old, and the utensils dirty. I saw utensils dropped on the floor, wiped on trousers and put back Some people may accept this, I, on the other hand, will not. Im not insulting those that love this hotel...it's just, to me, unacceptable... We were issued with a safe key..(gave us the wrong key to another room) they were rude, unhelpful and just didn't care. My father was in discussion with the hotel, who just said, "Tomorrow is another day, perhaps you will feel better". Well, no, I don't. The Hotel said nothing is wrong, we are insulting other guests, they are bullies and won't accept that their hotel failed me and my wife We could not sleep, the hardness of the beds, the filth, insects, were incredible. We left early in disgust and they just waved and said come back soon with a sarcastic smirk. My father wrote to the hotel, expressing his disgust and anger, but the hotel replied in such a salacious and demeaning manner, accepting no responsibility. But we were told to expect this from them. My Travel Agent was told they investigated after sending them the pictures they checked themselves and told the hotel to give us a refund. We got 9 of the 10 days back. It is the worst hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay in, and sadly, it gives Crete a bad name. I am waiting for the hotel's reply on here, denying everything, don't believe them, read the reviews... it is said they get people to write good ones, look closely, look through the chaff and you will see he "Real" Gouves Bay This place should be graded as a Hostel, in fact I have seen Hostels cleaner! I am an honest man, who wishes to let you, the traveller to be aware ...don't look at the pictures, they are old, and make your own opinion...don't say you wasn't warned... Here is half of the pictures. Horrible place.

Gouves Bay Hotel is situated in a quiet part of Kato Gouves. The staff are all very friendly , courteous and helpful. Both Katerina and Sharmilla at reception have given us some great tips on beautiful beaches and interesting places to visit and how to get there. Our room is spacious with plenty of wardrobe space and cupboards, air conditioning, a safe and functional bathroom with shower. The room is cleaned, beds made and towels changed (if needed) every day. The food in the restaurant is very good and offers an international breakfast and a varied selection of international and typical Greek dishes at lunch and dinner. The restaurant manager and his staff, especially Giorgos who has become our favourite waiter, are all attentive to both customer requirements and current Covid19 regulations. Access to the buffet area is restricted to a limited number of people at all times and all the food is served by the staff. The pools are cleaned every morning. Though access is restricted (always due to current Covid19 regulations) to no more than 10 people at a time, during our stay this was not a problem. The pool bar, run by Kostas and Marilena opens at 11am, when the restaurant stops serving breakfast. As far as the all inclusive formula is concerned, sandwiches are also available between 4:30pm and 6:30pm and ice-cream for children is available between 3:30pm and 4:30pm. The music is well chosen and everybody is made to feel very welcome. Marilena even manages to find time to chat and is always smiling and happy (even though she's wearing a mask, her eyes smile). The hotel also offers an external Cretan massage service with a 15 minute per person free voucher. The gazebo where the massages are performed is situated on the lawn in the hotel grounds just behind the pool. Massages are performed by Kostas and Maria, both qualified physiotherapists. From personal experience, Kostas' hands are amazing. I booked a further two 40 minute sessions and my back feels 20 years younger! All in all, in my opinion the Gouves Bay Hotel is a great place to stay for couples and families with children.

⭐⭐☆☆☆ We stayed at Gouves Bay Hotel and overall our holiday was okay, but it fell below our expectations. • Location: Great, close to the beach and town center. • Food & Drinks: Plenty of variety, including vegan and fish options. Coffee, tea, and bar service were good. • Entertainment & Facilities: The entertainment program was nice, pool towels were available, and the parking was very convenient. However, we experienced several problems: • Rooms: The rooms are very old, worn-out, and look unclean. The beds and mattresses are uncomfortable and definitely need replacing. We were told the sheets would be changed, but they were not. • Cleaning: The cleaning lady was very kind and careful, and this is not her fault. She does her job, but because the bathroom, sink, and toilet are very old and have limescale, the room still looks dirty even after cleaning. TV and nightstands were dusty, shower gels and shampoos were not replenished, and we had to take the trash out ourselves. • Room 107: The shower holder was broken, and the balcony door was also broken and needed repair. • Staff & Atmosphere: Most staff did not smile much, and we did not feel a warm welcome. One staff member in the restaurant (Dimitris) made us feel uncomfortable. He stood next to us while we were getting ice cream and politely asked us to leave while other guests were still sitting and drinking coffee. Even though we had all-inclusive, we did not feel relaxed. I am not sure if this happened because I am Muslim and wear a headscarf, but it felt a bit discriminatory, which was upsetting. • General Atmosphere: We did not feel truly “welcome”, and the outdated and worn rooms made the stay less enjoyable. This hotel has a beautiful location but needs serious improvement in maintenance, room renovation, and guest relations. We hope management pays attention to these points so that in the future, the experience can match the potential of this place.

So, don't really know where I should even start. Let's put it like this: THANKFULLY, my girlfriend and I just returned from this hotel, since it wasn't even close to what we expected;

To start of with the positive points (which won't take long...), the staff was really friendly and helpful (yet still quite limited to what they knew about local buses, nearby shops or car/bike rentals). We were greeted really nicely, got handed a little midnight snack bag since we arrived at like 0:30 in the night, got our keys and up to the room it goes, so far so good, but here is already were the negative starts;

So first evening, extremely tired from our way there, up to the second floor it goes, of course, with the elevator. I ain't overexaturading when I say that we weren't sure if we would even make it there, the elevator was old and loud and really scary, first and last time we used that thing for sure... Now on the second floor, we went to our room, lock behaved a bit wierdly first, but not too bad so far, until we opened the door and looked at the room for a bit; Shower was not only really unclean, but also broken! There was no way og actually moving the shower head up, since it always fell down again because of a brocken socket. (We / our guide informed the guy at reception about this the next day, to which we were told it would be fixed in a couple of hours, which of course did never happen during our 5 days stay...) As mentioned the shower was also extremely dirty, like the whole tube was more brown than metalic and more than half the shower head outlets were plumbed with chalk, which led to the remaining few outlets either having no water on them or shooting straight water lasers that actually kinda hurt. Also there is no curtain or anything, so while showering, you either flood the whole bathroom, OR, if you don't close the bathroom door (which I believe not everyone always does when travelling with his partner) you actually also flood the whole entrance area of the hotel room. Last thing for the bathroom, for whatever reason it started so smell gross after our day out on the second day, for which we can't find any reason for, it's not like we were on the toilet in the time gone (or even before we left, there was no smell at all)

The room itself was kind of alright, like design wise it was solid, had a nice big mirror with good light which my girlfriend of couse really liked, the room wasn't too tiny and the climate worked (even tho it is directed straight onto the bed which quite quickly can get you sick) But also here it sadly wasn't too clean, There was some kind of sand-ish tiny particles underneath the first blanket, which was gross and uncomfortable/itchy to sleep on. After we had slept for the first night, in the sunlight we noticed that there were also a couple of marks on the bedsheets, which was gross aswell. The last thing regarding the room is that the door to our balcony was completely broken, it either was stuck, got stuck half way or didn't want to close nomore. Once I went outside to smoke, ofcourse closed the door behind me to not make the room smell and barely was able to make it back inside again, I literally had to pull on that thing with full force almost breaking it evem more to finally get out of the sun.

So overall, room was inaccaptable and we actually were happy about the fact, that we only had 3 full days there and not more, first holiday we were actually happy to finaly leave...

Now quick feedback round for everything besides the room; 'Clean' Pool towels we got after asking at the reception were covered in wierd brownish stans, really gross, Food, trying my best to stay subjective here, wasn't tasting good, best i can describe it with is if you imagine any meal, for example scrambled eggs, mixed with like 50% of water, same for the juices n stuff, really thin mixed with gross tab water, to which I still ain't sure if even supposed to be drinked (really bad taste/chalky) There was a big lack of utensiles to eat, no tea spoons and we drank outside paper/plastic cups......

Recently attended the shows presented by the talented Rio, and it was incredible. Rio’s charisma and stage presence captivated the audience from the start. His energy was seen so clearly and his need for everyone to smile was extraordinary. When not presenting shows he was so helpful in making our days good in day time for example having a nice conversation with us and also trying to create games in the pool such as water polo and on hotel land such as starting volleyball games and also football and darts challenges. What a great guy!

Every evening was a masterclass in entertainment, leaving us cheering for more. Especially when we saw the pair by the music in the evening Rio and martyna. They knew what the audience needed and gave it.

The service provided by the wonderful Alicia was so helpful, she always had a smile on her face and when catering. When giving her services she always was polite and could always have a good conversation while still doing her job in speed and efficiently.

The massages provided by Costa and Maria were so relaxing and relieving. I fully recommend.The therapists were highly skilled and attentive, tailoring each treatment to my specific needs. Their professionalism and expertise were evident in every aspect of the service, from the soothing massages to the rejuvenating facials.What truly stood out was the staff's dedication to ensuring a personalized and calming experience. They took the time to understand my preferences and went above and beyond to create a serene and luxurious atmosphere.I left feeling completely refreshed and revitalized. I highly recommend the spa at Gouves bay for anyone seeking top-notch service and an unforgettable experience.

However, while most of my experience was satisfactory, the checkout process left much to be desired. On the day of departure, I encountered a significant delay. Despite arriving at the front desk during the designated checkout time, there was a long wait due to understaffing.leading to frustration among those also wanting to check out. They took off our bands at 12:00 and told us to leave the premises even though our flight was at 8:00. This holiday was booked by EasyJet holidays and no one told me it was going to be like this. They said we would have to pay for dinner and lunch , even though we payed all inclusive for everything. On the first night our flight was delayed from the moring to 1am leaving us paying the whole day and not getting any use out of it and now the staff charging us if we want to get water or anything the day of the departure.

The hotel did not provide any drinks after 11 Not even water, the rooms did not have a bottled water and you can only get water when the breakfast opens which is at 8.

The hotel was not helpful in trying to help us sort out the issue and refused to not listen to us and not be understanding.

When the bar ran out of sprite to serve sprite with vodka, they severed it with water instead and did not tell us. They could have informed us and we could have gotten it with anything else. The bar servers were not helpful or polite at all apart from Julia. Which left on our 5th day there. Which was honestly so...
