We went here this afternoon for a lunch with a view. Our experience was spectacular! Our table faced the water and the breeze coming off the water felt absolutely amazing.
Upon our arrival we were treated exceptionally. The owner helped us find parking (they recently prohibited street parking).
We ordered a variety of dishes and each one was fantastic. I was surprised at the level of service. 2 sets of white tablecloths and even the little stools for the women's handbags. For each course we were given new silverware and plates. We CONSTANTLY had full water glasses The server was very attentive and it felt like we were at high class restaurant in a downtown American city.
We ordered the typical appetizers--octopus, tomato and cucumber salad, a boiled vegetable medley, French fries and tzaziki. To comment again on the service, the salads came without any toppings. At 1st I thought this was strange but then noticed that the server came over and added olive oil to the appetizers--- wow! All were delicious!
For our main dishes we ordered fish soup, fresh fish, squid, and for the kids, beftekia and sausage meals. Everything tasted fresh and we were very pleased with our meals.
When we finished our lunch we were brought out a wonderful platter of ice cream, fruit and sweets. This was a big hit with the kids!
All in all this is an amazing place to go for either lunch or dinner. There are lot of places to choose from in Gytheio--- don't settle for anything less...
Read moreMy husband and I were recommended to come here for lunch from a family member. It's right on the water, beautiful scenery, and the restaurant is gorgeous. Getting here would be difficult, i can see parking would be a hassle but we were here on a off season. We were told to order the fish soup and we did, we literally fell into it and remembered part way too take a picture. I can only describe it as warm, comforting, and something my grandma would make if she was a greek women. I cant remember what was in it besides fish, potatoes, onion..... i only know the feeling it gave me. We cleaned the bowl and soaked up the remaining juices with the bread, it was that good. We also ordered the octopus, it's sundried meaning they hang it outside in the sun like on a cloth line. The reason is to try to get all the liquid out of it before grilling so its not so chewy, the octopus is grilled taste, great with wine or ouzo. We also had the fried squid which was amazing and for me I loved the salad, "Sliced tomato" (I like the name) it tomatoes w/caper leaves, and kritamo, which is a sea fennel but here it's pickled and the caper leaves. I've never thought of pickling caper leaves before but yummy!! Bringing all these flavors together, sensory overload.... We had to go home...
Read moreFrom the moment we arrived at Saga Restaurant, we were met with a warmth and attentiveness that’s rare even in the finest establishments. Nestled in the heart of Gytheio, Saga isn’t just the best in the area - it’s a true culinary gem that transcends expectations.
What made it unforgettable wasn’t just the refined presentation or the explosion of authentic Mediterranean flavors, but the impeccable attention to detail. Every gesture from the staff reflected genuine hospitality - thoughtful, present, and seamless. This was not service; it was care in motion.
But what truly set this experience apart for us as a family was our 10-year-old son’s reaction. Typically a tough critic and a loyal McDonald’s fan, he not only asked for more - he proclaimed, “This is better than McDonald’s!” Words we’ve never heard from him, not even in Michelin-starred venues. That kind of sincere joy from a child says everything.
Saga managed to unite gourmet sophistication with heartfelt simplicity - a rare and precious combination.
If you’re ever in Gytheio, go to Saga. Don’t think twice. Whether you’re a seasoned gastronome or a traveling family looking for something real, this is a place where memories are made - plated with soul and...
