Pepino's Pizza — Restaurant in Municipality of Eastern Samos

After seeing photos of this pizzeria on Google Reviews, I definitely wanted to try here because the dough looked well-fermented; the crust were puffed, crispy, and also soft. It might have been prepared using the biga method, similar to Neapolitan pizza.

We originally planned to order Margherita, but to try something different, we went with the Samos Pizza. The difference was that it came with large slices of tomato on top. This was a bit disappointing, as the tomato slices covered the mozzarella, and we couldn’t really taste the mozzarella as much.

Upon tasting, we found that the dough was indeed well-fermented and the best we had experienced in Samos. However, it didn’t seem to have the characteristics of a pre-ferment, as there weren’t enough air bubbles in the crust, suggesting it lacked the aromatic flavor I expected. While I can’t say exactly why, it felt like something was missing. I’m quite into Neapolitan-style pizza, so many people might enjoy this place without noticing these details. For me, though, it didn’t quite meet my expectations.

Since we have been in Samos we have mostly had delicious meat and some very bad pizza's in the more touristic area's. After a few days of meat we were craving some good pizza. Pepino's is placed in one of the side streets. We were very glad that we found this place because the food was really amazing. The pizza's are in real Italian stone oven style(even better than in Italy). Also try the Retsina which is a local whine and has a very specific taste. I cannot argue with the review from S B below. The pizzas from Pepino's taste like they are directly imported from Italy. Don't try a pizza elsewhere, it will indeed be soaked with feta cheese/goat cheese.

Go here. Try a pizza diabola with some extra olives. Order a bottle of Samos wine (Retsina) and if you did not like it, than... Stay home and eat your local dishes there because this...
