Lion taverna — Restaurant in Municipality of Festos

I have rarely had such a terrible dining experience as I did at this restaurant. From the moment we walked in, things went downhill. The service was uninterested and downright rude. We waited over 30 minutes before anyone even bothered to take our order.

When the food finally arrived, it was a complete disaster. The dishes were clearly not fresh and tasted like they came straight out of a microwave. The meat was tough and dry, the vegetables were bland and overcooked, and the portions were embarrassingly small for the outrageous prices they charge.

On top of that, the interior of the restaurant was dirty and poorly maintained. The tables were sticky, and it seemed like the floor hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. The ambiance was far from cozy, with a noisy environment and uncomfortable seating.

All in all, a horrible experience that I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. There are so many better options nearby. Please don’t waste your time...

Really bad experience with this place. Ordered to try some sea food for me and my wife, mussels and some snails, really grose and tasted badly, but I said that it might be me as I have never tried and maybe I not made for this kind of food. We have ordered something else, something safe and easy, some wiener schnitzel and a gyros. The schnitzle was pink insinde and the gyros meat tasted funny again. When I told this to the staff members they just lifted their shoulders and carry on. Ended up paying a bit over €50 and left with empty stomacs. Please check other reviews as well before trying...

Selten habe ich so etwas mieses erlebt. Dieses Restaurant hat nichts, absolut nichts mit einer Taverne gemein. Das typisch griechische Weißbrot wird nicht vorab gereicht. Stattdessen wird man gefragt, ob man Knoblauchbrot haben möchte. Dieses schlägt dann schlussendlich mit 4€ zu Buche. Davon abgesehen triefte dieses nur so vor Fett. Die Gyros-Platte war eine einzige Katastrophe. Die Fleischmenge, geschwindend gering. Das Gyros viel zu weich, ölig und schlecht gewürzt. Die ansonsten superleckeren Patates (Pommes) waren lediglich in Scheiben geschnittene Kartoffeln, die zum Teil nicht genügend frittiert und somit innen noch nicht ganz gar waren. Wirklich gewürzt waren sie auch nicht. Dazu ein kleines Häufchen Tzatziki. Und ein wenig "Salat" (Tomate, Gurke, Gemüsezwiebelringe) - leider in Olivenöl ertrunken. Der Service war zwar bemüht, aber wenig herzlich. Das kenne ich von 'den Griechen' definitiv anders. Vielmehr war man damit beschäftigt, neue Gäste in die Lokalität zu locken. Nach der Bitte um die Rechnung gab es weder einen kleinen Teller mit Karpusi (Wassermelone) noch einen Tsikoudia (Raki). Das war in allen anderen bisher besuchten Tavernen in Matala immer und ausschließlich der Fall. Den Raki - eine kleine Flasche mit 50ml - habe ich mir im Anschluss in einem Supermarkt gekauft. Den konnte ich nämlich nach diesem abscheulichen Essen (ich finde einfach keinen anderen Ausdruck dafür) wirklich gebrauchen - mir war ernsthaft übel. Fazit: Im Grunde ist ein vergebener Stern noch zu viel. Diese "Taverne" ist definitiv nicht...
